So Suzy has been with me for very nearly 2 weeks (will be 2 weeks tomorrow) so i thought I'd do a quick post with some updates. As a quick recap I have Millie my JRT (she's one year old and I've had her since 7 weeks old), I wanted another dog, and have had yearnings for a grey/Whip/Lurcher type for a number of years. I contacted a few rescues and GRWE was the one that i ended up finding Suzy at, so on Tuesday 26th April she came home with me and Millie. I have to say that GRWE are absolutely brilliant, their 'staff' and the support they offer is just wonderful!
Suzy has been so good I cant believe how lucky I have been, exactly as described by GRWE. She has settled into life with Millie, Gypsy (the cat) and I really really well! I'm also really pleased with Millie, who has adapted to having another dog in her house brilliantly and seems happy to share me!
Suzy is bright as a button, I'd really like to have a go at obedience with her eventually and i think she could be really good (we'll also have a go at agility and flyball with Millie). I managed to find somewhere safe (enclosed) to start to have her off lead a bit - there's a long way to go, but recall is getting there, she is just very good at going deaf if there is something particularly interesting to sniff! - Any advice anyone has for improving this would be greatfully received!
In the house, Millie and Suzy are inseperable for the most part, although when Im in the lounge with them Millie does claim my lap and suzy sits on my feet - both seem perfectly happy with the arrangement - and me - I'm like a pig in muck! Gypsy (the cat) is slowly getting used to her and spending more and more time around her - but she has her own 'room' that neither dog can get into if she decides she's had enough.
The play between the two dogs can be a bit rough - although there's never been a scratch on either of them, and i tend to call it off and calm them down when i think its going a bit too far - although both of them are normally lying down bellies on view when playing so I'm not overly worried. There's only been one spat which was completely Millie's fault - it was her 'what's mine is mine, and whats yours is mine' attitude, just escalated a bit - separated them, removed the toys and all was fine (again, not a mark on either of them!) Millie has since learnt that she has to share, and i can now bring out the toys without any trouble. So here are a couple of photos of them - just very happy, pleased 2 dog, 1 cat, 1 horse, 1 tank of fish home! sorry for the long post!
