So my friend and I went on a different hacking route today and wow what a lovely day to do it! We had beautiful views and lovely forrest
Loads of hillwork was the aim of the game today so as my boy is still pretty unfit we took it pretty slow again - although we may have to up the game slightly as he wasn't too sweaty when we got back so obviously he's fittening up again.
We had a lovely controlled canter along a beautiful forrest path then turned round (I know we should go on circular routes but I'd have been riding for days to do a circle up there and would have ended up three villiages over 60 miles away!
) and decided to have a canter back along the same path....
Well! I got canter then GALLOP! THIS IS FUN MUM!
So we had a small argument where I politely pointed out that galloping hell for leather was not really what I wanted and after a bit he decided to conceed the point
Silly cob!
We also forged a couple of lovely big puddles and Loki got to splash in them which he seemed to really enjoy!
I think he'd love a beach trip!

Got back to the field and my friend came in so I could put out a few trotting poles for her as she's never done them before. She enjoyed the poles so we had a little lesson in jumping and I'm pleased to say she did fantastically!
I was really proud of how quickly she picked up the basics and she is now happily and safely popping over little crosspoles about half a foot high in the middle and at the end she did a little upright again about a half foot high.
She was really chuffed with herself because she never thought she'd be able to jump and she wasn't brave enough to give it a shot. Now I think I've given her the bug so she's coming back next week for another go.
I think she's going to do fine and we just need to work on her jumping position a bit and getting her to really look for her turns as she has a habit of turning into her line of approach blind but that's fine it just needs a bit of practice.
Anyone else been enjoying the lovely weather with their equine friends?
