The story of my mum and dad's eccentric friends horse named Coral..
He started his working life as a 2yr old racing on the flat from a yard in Newmarket, he had 5 starts and a good win before moving to hurdles where he ran in 38 races and finished in the top 3 in over half of them before then moving on to NH/proper jump racing and winning a good race there too.. He then retired from 'proper racing' and became a 'point-2-pointer' winning a further 8 races and being placed in many more..
He then retired from all forms of racing to the hunting field where he enjoyed some 200+ days carrying (or should that be running away with) all sortes of people encluding his loyal owners...
When some years later he eventually retired form all forms of work he became a field ornament and companion to to 'Will' another retired hunter, they mooched around the field together untill 'Will's' owner decided that his time was up and that he'd really be happier in horsey heaven..
Coral tho was not ready to leave this world and to that matter was getting bored with being told that he was retired!! So he was brought back into 'happy hacker' work, ie a mooch down the road when he or his owner felt like it...
So, that brings us up to this summer, when his owner notices that at the local show there are showing classes for veterans.. by now our friend Coral is 25yrs old but has never gone in a circle in his life (only very fast in a straight line).. he's platted up and taken to this show, which he duly wins..
Anyway, it now turns out that his last win has qualified him for a regional final.. His owners are away on holiday during it so i have him to stay and take to this most important of shows, as it is a qualifier for Olympia
He is one of the most stunning horses to look at, with a better top line that most eventers/SJers you'd see out competing today.. The only give away that he is 25 are the slight gray hairs over his eyes and the fact that he has to live out at night as if stood in for too long his legs fill up a bit..
I know to some of you 25 isn't that old, but remember he is a TB that has run [well] in alot of races and had some serrious days hunting!!
So, i raise my glass to you Coral, i think you're an awesome horse!!
