Trying to get back into jumping as loved it as a child, competed riding club jumps early 20's and now not jumped for several years. I have 2 youngsters that are quite sane & sensible & Im teaching them to jump.
Only problem is I get into such a nervous state! It's just the thought of it and I'm only talking jumps under 2ft! I'm having lessons & before last one even started my legs were like jelly, enjoyed it when I got going.
We are planning on a small x country type event for friends in August & I was practically having a panic attack last night thinking of it even though I'm building the jumps from tiny to bigger heights and its on our land so can practise horses over them in hand etc. Really annoyed with myself & want to be confident again. Although I've always suffered nerves (remember doing xc & heaving over the side of the horse!) I still did it.
Any tips/ drugs :) etc!?

Try Hypnotherapy. If your interested I can put you in touch with someone who works with horse related issues !

I'm no expert and I certainly have no magic formula, however I do find the more I do it (and it has to be regularly) the more confident I get. If I have a long gap (which usually happens with the XC hence I lost my nerve and have to build the size back up again), it does me no good.

Just start small, and build up slowly, the lesson will help a lot too. My instructor is very good and putting the jumps up without me even noticing it. :)

Sorry I don't know, but if you find it can you sell me some, I'm a proper wooss these days, its depressing. Jumped (only about 2ft) on Tuesday for the 1st time in about a year and managed not to fall off, still was glad/sad in equal measures when the lesson finished so I didn't have to jump again...

Practise, find a fab instructor. Mine makes me feel so confident.Dont ride on your own, always wear a body protector- just makes you feel safer imo-
Rescue remedy calms us both if we're freaking out :)
