The first time I got a glimpse of what my mother was going to be like in the horsey world was when she told me to "Bloody BOOT it, child!!" at a small show about 4 years ago.
She's taken everything in her stride ever since, from being with me through all the ups and downs of my 3 years with Chloe, to buying our beloved Beetle lorry on a whim. She has accompanied me to every show I've been to, despite being completely un-horsified, hurled me back up into the saddle when I've fallen off, and has donned her wellies and barbour and trumped through the countryside hoping to catch a glimpse of me out hunting, season after season.
She learnt how to drive the lorry so she could bring my horse on our Sussex holiday with us, although understandably the entire journey was spent muttering 'I have been reduced to a flaming chauffeur!!!'
She done it all, from groom to loose horse catcher, despite being quite nervous of horses. She grew to love my horse, and cried more than me when she sold her. Despite being a fiery, loud redhead, she has this unbelievable calming effect on horses, its lovely to watch. If I felt my horse getting out of hand in a warm up, she'd take her for 5 minutes and come back with a very chilled pony. (no doping involved
)
Her skill in always bagging the last hotdog at the food stand on a grim day is immense, not to mention her brilliant commentary on videos, her inspiring 'oh bloody get ON with it' talks, and her impressive horsey multi-tasking ability which meant any horse dragging its toes when turned out by her got a sharp talking to.
I can't thank her enough for all she's done for me. She's been behind me, come rain or sun, and I wouldn't be able to do it without her. Thank you so, so much mum.
