on how much I do actually value my horse.
Just got thinking randomly really, and had time to reflect on just how much I owe to my horse really. I mean, I've not even had him a year yet, but I've expected a bloody lot of him bless him. I use him to lead out the majority of the rides when peeps take some of our others out for hacks...and we go in front, on a loose rein most the time, lead past almost every scary object we encounter [tractors, scarecrows, combines, oil tankers, DEER [lol], etc], go through water, take leads over jumps out hacking, take out youngsters, etc. I can then go for a flat out gallop [proper 6th gear flat out] and pull up on the buckle now after and then proceed to walk normally and mooch with no jogging or sillyness etc. Took him to our first show last year and nannied another horse there too, to which he kept his head completely throughout [though not as well behaved at the fun ride the other week!
]. Imean,he can be a spooky horse...but he does just pullhimself together if I ask him to.
And then have jumped him over everything and granted, we're not naturaljumpers and the poles come down more than they do stay up...BUT he's never looked twice at one thing I've ever aimed him at to jump and will always go for it on the whole. Think he was the only horse I wasn't bothered about jumping the gate on for the first time!
And I'll hack him out myself and do everything with him etc and he's the same throughout pretty much. Whether stabled 24/7....ridden everyday or after time off...He does just try his heart out bless him.
I think it's quite easy to forget how much your horse actually means to you when you get caught up in day-to-day runnings and jobs....just a few comments made me realise again tonight, that whilst he may not be the most perfect conformation wise, or the most talanted showjumper in the world....he is worth his weight in gold to me really and suits me down to a tee!
Any my other mare, who's out on loan now, she was my first pony and completely green as grass. My first complete project of my own and she got me through absolutely everything. Jumping 4ft+ courses, every XC jump, confidence and got me through my later teenage years, where face it, you need something to get you through!!!
So just a post for you to relfect on your horses and post how much they mean to you! After all...having them should be because we love them at the end of the day!
