A few weeks ago, I noticed my mare looking a bit like a hamster with a fat cheek one side....she was seen by the dentist not too long ago but being the good mummy I am..got her to the dentist again to reveal...

A broken tooth!

Has the daft 'oss been eating rocks??

Anyway, vet will be in attendance to sedate, and 'electric gear' will be needed....

Sounds ominous....and i'm hopeless with this sort of thing, very squeamish....

Good job me sis is coming with me!

At least she will be comfortable once it's done, and will be painfree once the swelling on her poor gum has gone down....

Horses....TSK!
 
Don't worry, she'll be fine. My previous horse had a couple of teeth extracted at the vets due to them growing inwards. She was eating fine the same evening and seemed none the worse for wear. I think she had a few days off work afterwards but she was able to go back out in the field the next day.
Hope it all goes well and she is soon back to her non hamster self.
 
I know!

Will have a lesson now on Saturday, dentist said she should be fine for that, just take it easy...and see how she goes!

Looking forward to getting back in the saddle, it's been over 2 weeks! The bank holidays of course put the kybosh on everything, it was a nightmare getting the dentist and vet free at the same time, meanwhile...horse was getting a VERY fat face, and putting me hand in to pull out stuck grass was getting more and more fraught! You should see me hand....munched to all hell!

My mare had 2 extractions shortly after we got her. Poor love, her teeth had never been done in her 23 years, according to the dentist. he reckoned she wouldn't have survived the winter if we hadn't done them. Anyways, he vomited twice, the smell was so bad, and he does this for a living, jez, that smell was awful, but she was fine, and nobody would believe me that she was the age that she was shortly after having them done. I dont have any good pics of her, as they were all on the old laptop - her age was only given away from the grey hairs on her face.

Awww....bless her!

Went down tonight just to check shes alright, and she was all lovey-dovey with me, so I'm guessing shes feeling alot more comfortable in there!
 
It's the rasping that gets me, all that vigorous elbow action and that ever so slightly squeaky noise it makes:eek: Toe-curling!

Glad all is well that ends well though (and also that I was not in earshot:D)
 
I cant even stand the human dentist let alone the horse one... Fortunately my boy is so well behaved with the dentist that I only have to be in the vicinity.... Last year he had to have the electric rasp.... Once they have the 'gag' on it renders them pretty useless I always think it looks really barbaric.... LOL silly really....
