The journey with my little jockey has come to an end.

I don't want a new jockey so have advertised the pony for loan

I've never loaned out a pony before, I think I should send his saddle and bridle as the saddle fits him really well plus will send his current feed

But what else should go with him? how far do I go? girth, stirrups? rugs? boots etc?

he has supplements, do I offer to pay for those and have them sent direct to the loaners to absolutely ensure he gets what he needs?

What else do I need to think about? What if he comes back? I haven't found the right child yet, he is so quirky and it all seems impossible.

he is a very attractive pony so I'm getting messages from people who have no idea how much riding some ponies take just because he looks nice, its taking some weeding out of people!

My head is spinning :(

I took a horse on loan recently and he came with saddle & bridle with girth etc plus his rug wardrobe and a week of feed. Owner offered other things but i have loads so i have provided the rest. the only thing i use is his saddle, bit and rugs (i use my stirrups, girth etc and my own bridle but I am happy to fit all this myself and mine actually fits him better than his own). I planned to send the rest back but i've packed it all up clean and dry and will just store it with my other spares.

Unless the supps are madly expensive or niche then i would expect to buy them as the loaner.

What about insurance? most people say owner should pay and reclaim expense from loaner. i took out my own policy as owner was happy with that.

I saw on another thread that you’d had him up to loan, sorry to hear that you’re moving onto a new chapter all of you - I’ve loved reading your adventures over the years.
It sounds like you might just need to bide your time if he’s tricky - am I right that you show? If so any showing contacts you could try?
Hope you find somewhere/one suitable soon.
Re: what he comes with, you will lose a certain amount of control when he moves and whilst some people will look after kit/equipment, others might not, so weight up what it’s worth to send him in well fitting gear (knowing they may change it or damage it anyway) vs selling it (you could always offer it to the loaner first)
Supplements is an odd one tbh - it’s the norm that the owner would pay for medication for existing illnesses but I’ve not heard of anyone doing that for supplements. I suppose it depends how adamant you are that he stays on them. Some loaners might be happy to stick with what the owner suggests anyway, others might want to feed their own preference.
Really with loaning, anything goes, just make sure you take good photos of anything that goes with him and have a good contract in place which specifies any specifics like supplements etc
