I know (because of the lovely PMs I've had :)) that lots of you have been watching my progress, or lack of it, with Mollie. So you might be interested to know that I've been offered a place at a new yard! :D

The farm where I keep her is lovely in many ways, and I'll be sad to go. BUT there are three problems: 1. No winter turnout. 2. No off-road riding facilities. 3. No support from other, more confident and experienced, people.

In the summer, unlimited turnout masked some of the issues. But now that winter's here Mollie's going loopy stuck in her box. Most of the other horses and owners seem to cope but I don't know how. Many of the horses aren't ever ridden though.

I viewed a couple of yards, and one last week seemed a possiblity. It's a small yard, 12 horses. All year daytime turnout, overnight stabling (in winter)in a block of stables round a courtyard and a lovely big floodlit menage. The YO is keen that it should be a friendly, supportive atmosphere and wants to introduce me to another livery owner, a young riding intructor who YO thinks will be able to help me sort out my Mollie issues.

When I last had a horse, circa 1972-77, I never kept him anywhere with no turnout. I don't remember anyone keeping their horses inside 24/7. But now, round here, it seems many people do. When I bought Moll in June I didn't realise what no winter turnout would be like. But then, I fondly assumed that within a few months we'd be happily hacking out daily all weather .

So, I'm quite excited. Could this be the new start Mollie and I need?

Yay - really pleased for you - hopefully it will work out for you. If Mollie gets the turnout that she needs she might calm down beyond recognition. It's amazing how much they change when they get regular turnout. Good luck. x

Sounds great, really pleased for you both :D Hopefully some turn out for molly and some support for you will have you both back enjoying each other in no time and the days start getting longer soon so thats always good.

I know how no turn out turns my boy loopy and he is very good normally and ridden twice a day if hes in!

OP x that sounds lovely, perfect for you and Mollie, I know that I would not be able to keep Ebs sane without turnout, so I completely get what you've been going through... and a lot of support at the new place for you too. Fingers crossed it works out... I really hope it does.

Last time I rode Mollie she was bucking and she's never done that before. I lunged her and she was rearing at me. Now the little patch of ground we ride or lunge on is just too muddy and slippy to be safe so I can't do anything with her.

I can't wait to be in the new place.

Thanks for all your lovely comments, everyone. :)
