Hello everyone,

I was just playing with my dog in the garden, frowing a ball back and forwards etc. Then two men have walked down with a dog. Not sure who these men are but they obv live along the road from me and it was off the lead.

My neighbours have a jack russell and other neighbours have other little dogs that my dog (bear) loves playing with. We have just had a 4foot fence put up around my garden aswell ..

This dog just came down the road and starting sniffing under my fence (about an inch at the bottom gap) so my dog ran over to see what it was and as hes sniffed through the fence these guys lifted his dog up over the fence to show his dog mine. Then as the guy went to put the dog down the dog kinda lept up and jumped over my fence into my garden and went to go for my dog. I grabbed this guys dog as mine yelped and ran away as I knew bear wouldnt do anything apart from run and hide. As this happened the guy who owned the dog jumped over my fence and snaped my new fence panel!!! But I already had his dog so he took over holding it (my instinct was to grab his dog .. shouldnt of but I just held him by the collar suprised I managed to hold it .. it was so strong lol)

This guy was really shaken up too so I opened the gate for him to go out of the garden lol .. and my mum also came out aswell as she saw it all. But we didnt argue or anything because I think we were all in shock.

When I was talking to them after I thought it was a staffy .. and I was like oh hes a staff isnt he? And the guy goes No hes a pitball .. and this other guy who he was with was like No hes not .. hes not a pitball :S.

Now bear keeps on licking a part of his waist/back leg area. Hes not cut, I didnt see the other dog bite him as bear just ran straight away. Im just really worried because now when someone walks past the garden he barks loads at them im hoping he will be okay with his other dog friends next door.

Im going to keep an eye on bears waist/leg area and if it gets worse ill just take him to the vets.

Hes been outside since but wont play with his ball just keeps marking his teritory where that dog was standing in the garden.

Gosh im so shocked still! He offered to pay for my new fence panel but my dad told him not to worry about it as we still have some left over.

Thought id post it on here. Does anyone have any advice about bear now? Like if he starts to be naughty with his dog pals? Im really worried I never let bear off the lead anyways because its all roads where I am.

Ahh and I forgot to add that back in January I was with my step dad and saw this guy with the same dog and he told us that he was an american pitball but today when he jumped my fence he said he wasnt?

xx

Isn't it illegal to have pitballs? If it is, I would report them. Its horrid when a unprovoked dog attack happens, you feel so shocked and shakey. Hope Bear is ok. I guess you have to keep things as normal as possible for him.

He's probably not a Pitbull, some people are stupid enough to think staffs are Pits...

Keep an eye on your dog and possibly don't hold strange dogs over fences to say "hello" in future..?

Yeah, im still so shaken and now everytime a dog barks bear goes running barking trying to find it, im just worried incase they that dog tried to jump the fence again as it now knows it can jump it.

Bears okay just wont leave me alone but hes eaten most of his dinner. Poor boy.

The guys walked back up and just spoke to my step dad and they had the dog on a lead. My mum said that there illegal thats why the guy was so shaken up. xx

I didnt hold the dog over the fence. It was the guy that held it there? I dont know these people and I dont know the dog. They said that they were suprised that there dog done it.

It looked like a staff just chunkier and a bit taller. I would of thought it was a staff not a pitball too.

Well in that case when people do that (I'd break someones fingers if they held a dog over my fence

stupid people) - don't let them, or call off your dog, saves him getting hurt by peoples stupidity.

Must be a very special guy. Oh well, alls well that ends well - just keep an eye on your dog and maybe the next time you see this guy - just mention he was very foolish and lucky you are not reporting him.

If I was your parents I would report him - I'm sorry but what was he doing holding his dog up at your garden fence/gate?

It is just asking for trouble.

I'm glad it wasn't anything worse for either you or your dog. I would just keep an eye on Bear - have you checked properly for puncture wounds?

it maybe that he has just pulled a muscle or something.

What a horrible thing to happen in your own garden - bloody idiots.

As for Bears other friends I expect he will be fine with them - let him play with one of them asap.

I wouldn't report him, I have to be honest, if per chance it is deemed to be a Pit (that is to say after all, it might look like one and not be one) the dog would likely be destroyed and the man without his dog. Its not something I could do to someone, who although stupid (how many of us have done something stupid in our time) will hopefully have learnt from the episode.

My dog has been fine, we didnt need to take him to the vets. We havnt reported him as I know they will destroy it and I think thats a bit unfair. When we saw the same guy last month he told us that it was an american pitball.

I think that yesturday the guy was so shocked and shaken that he had the fright to keep his dog on a lead from now on. As when he walked back up he did have his dog on a lead thank god.

Its just one of them unlucky things.
