now that the weather has started to warm up and things are thawing please use common sense when bringing horses back into work- if they've had 5 weeks off then please don't expect them to go straight back to doing what they were doing before the snow... how would you like it if you sat on your backside for 5 weeks and then someone made you do a full gym session? at best you'd be sore as hell, at worst you'd do a bad injury...

i know that this won't apply to most people btw...but thought it was worth pointing out

thats what i thought...can't do any harm to remind people... have heard some people i know already planning shows and stuff this weekend. fine if horse is fit and you know its fit/ have been able to keep it ticking over but if its been sat in a stable is asking for an injury...

Can someone please tell my ponies this? Ok, they've only been out of work for just under two weeks, but they greeted the thaw today with a full-on hooley, incl much cantering up hills, sliding stops etc. By the break in the fence where someone couldn't stop, this had been happening earlier, too! They live out, so it's not that they've been cooped up all that time either!

Totally agreed. Trying to work out how far back I need to go in my fitness programme with my mare who was in work for 8 weeks and just progressed to a 40 min hack with some trotting..now out of work for 4. Gelding will be different - his wind fitness goes way before his muscle fitness..
