I have a stray cat at the yard which I have fed for about a year and the poor old soul looks like he is on his last legs. He wouldn't allow me to catch or lift him just stroke him. Worried vets will cost me a fortune as I'm broke and the local RSPCA are pretty useless. The poor wee thing has tics in his ear and eyes are really sore and bleeding. i de-flead him last week. Any ideas? Just want him to be comfortable.

If you call around your local vets, one may be able to help you. I rescued an injured budgie from the roadside last year and my local vet said to take it in and if they couldn't do anything, they would PTS. I was not expected to pay anything and when I offered, they said thanks, but no...they had a fund to deal with wildlife, even though it was somebody's pet.

If you can catch it, do that or...take it to your local RSPCA or PDSA centre.

Poor thing, I am not a cat lover but all I want to do is come and help you get it better or seen to :-(

Maybe cats protection would be more helpful for you - I know they helped someone I know who "inherited" 9 feral cats when she moved into a new house. All NOW neutered thanks to their help!
