As some of you know, I have a JRT called Bruno. He's not an easy dog by all means. He was people aggressive, dog aggressive, food aggressive etc. I've had him for nearly 15 months and we have sorted the food aggression, he doesn't hate people anymore either, as long as they don't crowd him and play with his ball! His dog aggression however is still a work in progress, we can meet a couple of dogs now which we don't try to kill!! Strange dogs are still an issue but we are getting there, slowly.
Today we went for a walk with my friends New rescue dog, they both completely lost the plot! Was some furious snarling but within 10 minutes, Bruno settled, he tried a couple of times to have a go but didn't get very far. Thanks to some quick reactions and the fact if I yell "down", he knows to get down and stay there! So a much more positive walk. I couldn't be prouder!

However, I was putting his muzzle on before we met my friend and a woman with her German shepherd shouted abuse at me, that I was being cruel to him, I should be locked up for animal cruelty!! At the end of the day, Bruno deserves to be walked and if that means that he is muzzled for his safety and other people's dogs safety then so be it!

Just made me sad at the end of a positive walk that I got that :(

How strange. Don't let it make you sad, she was obviously stupid!

Did you shout back that you would take it off and let him bite her dog then? GSD owners often get abuse themselves, I'm surprised one would join in!

OP, there is a person near us who has a JRT who behaves as you describe your dog. I dearly wish they would muzzle it. And keep their garden gate closed. And not let it roam. Or at least not be offended when other people react to it hanging off their ankle/dog accordingly. Thank you for managing your dog!

Some people are very rude. Unlikely but could it have been the type of muzzle she objected to ? There are some really badly designed one's on the market.

can I just say it's so nice to hear/see someone being responsible about their dogs behaviour and muzzling so they can be exercised safely. Don't let one ignorant person spoil your achievment as it sounds like you've come a long way with your little jrt - they are not an easy breed

Thanks guys, I did say to the shepherds owner, that it's all fair game to him, Bruno doesn't care if it's a chi or a wolfhound, he'll gladly have a go! He has a muzzle that I used to use On the greyhound (smaller obviously) Baskerville ones? He prefers that type over anything else. He's come along way my little man, he's not perfect but he's mine and we're getting there. Even if the only food item he steals is my cup of tea!

The Baskerville one's are pretty good as they allow dogs to pant. Can't see any logical reason why the woman objected to that at all.

Probably just ignorance. My MIL had a right rant about a tv programme with a dog in a "muzzle" about how cruel it was, when I looked at what she was going on about, the dog wasn't even IN a muzzle, it was wearing a halti headcaller!
