A question about bradoon bits

To me, it seems that the vast majority of the bradoon bits for a double bridle are single-jointed snaffles.

Why is this? I personally never use single-jointed snaffles on my horse (riding just with the snaffle), and I think that *generally* people prefer something with a link...so why the single joint bradoons?

Or am I just looking in the wrong places? I have found them in French Link styles, but they seem to be hugely outnumbered by the standard snaffles

Just curious really as I'm looking at slowly introducing mine to the double, and he wears a 6inch dick christian style bit - obviously unlikely to find that so am happy to settle for a French link but I have been wondering for a while why they seem to be less common!

Yep I have found a couple of french links in his size..but still wonder why they don't seem that common ;)

Not that I could justify buying one from sprenger for the amount they are!

I have a french link as opposed to single jointed for my youngster, not sure theres a particular reason why though. I do notice though when I go into places that the bits they sell are either single jointed snaffles or they then go straight to dutch gags. I think I had to ask them to order in french link!

Tempi - as I said, maybe I've been looking in the wrong places. They're pretty uncommon here, and french links more so, but looking at ebay/equestrian clearance etc seemed to indicate to me that single jointed were the more common type!

Just seemed a bit odd, given most people would school in a snaffle with a link or something :)

I feel like I haven't articulated myself very well!
I'm not saying one bit is better than the other at all, just that from what I've seen, the majority of people use linked snaffles over single jointed ones, so it would stand to reason that there'd be a big choice of linked mouthpiece bradoon bits, but that doesn't seem to really be the case (although only from what I've seen in my limited research).

Not saying anybody should be using a linked bit over a single joint :)

Was just curious as to whether the different placement or some other factor I don't know about meant that a single joint would act differently or something. Just think mine will struggle to make the transition anyway, and wouldn't want to make it harder by changing the mouthpiece too much, but a single joint seems more readily available

Sorry for any confusion I may have caused!
