something me and friends have been debating....

if you are anti hunting do you compete in hunter or WH or WHP or SHP or SH classes ??

and how do you feel about anti's that do ??

just a wonder after a strict anti hunter we know takes her horse who has never and will never hunt into hunter classes all the time

A girl at my old yard was very anti hunting and refused to go on a sponsored ride once because it was to raise money for the hunt. I don't know if she would do working hunter, its not actually hunting and the hunt don't gain anything from it, so she probably would!

If you dont comepte in working hunter classes or hunter classes just because it has 'hunter' in the name proves you are a complete idiot! WHP etc are not normally organised by a hunt and have nothing to do with the cruelty of hunting... killing. They are just comeptitions... thats it, and they have those names because of traditions. And loads of people who are anti hunting do hunter show classes and WH. And it doesn't matter if you are anti or not... i know SH are meant to hunt but the judge is judging conformation and if the horse would be sutible for hunting...

There was a letter in H&H about this a while ago as a horse was marked down in a WH class for scars it had recieved whilst hunting - they were calling for all entrants to have to have proved they had hunted.

i don't really have an opinion on this as I don't compete in these classes - even with the greatest stretch of the imagination, an arab could never ne 'classed' as a hunter... but people do take their Arabs hunting so wheres the sense in that?

At the end of the day it's a showing class and it's done to type and suitability for the job.... some may feel that's unfair but that's the way it is

A Hunter show class is a judging the horse by its type, not anything to do with what it has done. A working hunter must be up to the job of working, but neednt have done it. A show class is a show class. If you want to do a 'working hunter' class for genuine workes who have been scarred, or not conformationaly the best do a hunter trial!!!
On the hunting field often you see many horses that would do awfuly shown, even if they work the best.

it seems that is the majoritys view rara,i just think its really odd to do a class about something you feel so strongly against but perhaps thats just me if i really object to something i avoid anything remotely to do with it

Someone I know did a WH class with her horse, who is a fab hunter type stamp of a horse. The judge asked who she hunted with. The rider said good god I'd never go hunting, am dead against it - and promptly got taken from third in the initial line up to last!
