My Welsh x has a reacurring eye problem. The vet came out and made a comment that its quite common in welsh breeds. Thought i would ask to see if that were the case. Its nothing serious just sore and swollen from him rubbing it. Thanks in advance for taking the time to reply x

I had one Sec A with constantly watery eyes, my vet told me that the inbreeding for small, dished noses had cramped the tear ducts in some ponies, so they had to leak rather than drain naturally into the sinuses.

I have a sec D and a sec C neither have had any probs with their eyes, *touches wood* but I have heard it's quite common in dish faced A's.

Never heard of that lol! Quite interesting to know though

Interesting. My little 2yr welshie has this problem and she has a very dished face and massive eyes - bit like one of those shizu dogs!

Yes, mine was like that as well...the others I've had since have been less dishy with less bulging eyes and both have not had the problem....I may be wrong but I think from memory that the Revel lineage had a great deal to do with it...sorry to any Revel fans if I'm wrong, memory not what it was!

I've had two welshies and neither have had gooky eyes but neither are dishy faced- my mare had a very straight nose and my baby boy isn't really dished either. Very cute though!

got 2 sec D's and it's the one without the dishy nose that has the problems - he does have the wide forehead and large eyes though. they are always watery and they get crusty and then make the skin in the corners of his eyes red raw. i have to clean them every day and use vaseline to protect the skin. the other one's eyes are fine.

My A's has this problem, both had teeny tiny dished faces!! And had revel lines!! Revel ponies are especially teeny so that probably is true!!

My Welsh D doesn't seem to suffer (thankfully). However my Welsh A has always had dodgy eyes, especially in the winter. Last year she had constantly running eyes, this year she's got conjunctivitis, which I'm treating. She does have a dished face, although I know nothing of her breeding, she is also quite 'toe-out' on her forelegs.

Wow - I'm actually quite relieved to hear that it's quite a common problem for welshies. Not surprised that it's mainly the A's as they tend to have the most dished faces of the four sections.

Attached a photo of her, she's the little'un walking towards the camera.
