I went to Brecon Market horse and pony sales this evening.

It was, as always, an eye opener in many ways.
Several lots barely made 200gns...good quality fillies...i had my eye on 4..and just came away with 1.

Prices for sports horse type 3 yr old FILLIES were less than 400gns.

The filly I bought is a Sec D filly...2 yrs old has excellent breeding..Nebo lines..stands at 15hh now..I paid less than 350gns.

So...I guess this goes some way to explain why animals aren't selling...that vendors are asking way too much.
simples..?

Rather jealous you came back with a sec D filly, I wish I did!
I got one mare but I want more D's in my life.
Who's the sire of your new'un?
:)

That is a dire situation for the breeders. They are breeding good native stock then selling for next to nothing. Congrats on getting such a good one so cheaply though.

Given cost of keep, they aren't asking too much, but buyers don't have the money in the current economic climate, so prices are dropping through the floor. No-one wants extra mouths to feed in a winter where hay is uncertain and expensive, and no-one wants to take risks when VAT is going up to 20% in January.

Unfortunately prices do seem to be dropping hugely for even the best stock. I read the Fayre Oaks sales report, particularly looking at section As, and the prices had gone down from an average of £850 per foal to £520 (can't remember the exact figures.) It's a shame but I guess whatever you can get in this climate is ok.
