I work in central London with completely un-horsey people so when asked if I've had a good weekend, I have to limit myself to "great thanks"

And it was great! We had a jumping lesson on Saturday and I couldn't have been more pleased with him. He's a green 7 and we've had some issues with tantrums and over enthusiasm, leading to me having a hairline fracture of the wrist in July! This was only our second lesson after getting the cast off and he was a star. He had a great attitude, laid back, no tantrums but forward going. He took on all the jumps without trying to tow me in and cleared everything with ease. It is always so lovely when they give you a glimpse of what you might end up with once they've grown up!

Then yesterday we hacked to a local show to do Prelim 18. He was pretty excitable in the warm up and generally paying no attention what so ever to me so in the end I just let him go and chill out by the arena entrance to watch what was going on. The rain was still at the drizzle stage so not too bad. When we went into the arena he was very spooky at the jumps around the side but he paid no attention to the flowers marking the entrance at A. It was only our 4th dressage show this year and I was expecting him to be really strong. He was actually much more focussed than I was expecting! So much so when I started to pull him up from canter half way down the long side, he neatly fell back into trot, when in fact I was aiming for a transition at M! He was still a bit wobbly at times but couldn't have asked for more from him and we ended on a really lovely halt. We got 57.9 which was probably fair and we thought we'd come second, only to realise they'd combined two classes and got pipped into third by the last horse to go. It was a tiny show, only 5 competing but it's all experience and never one to knock a rossette!

We're back to the same place next weekend for our showjumping debut so finally feel like we're making some progress after a bit of a stop start year!

No action shots but a picture at the end with my friend who first
