i know most insurance companies request a 5 stage vetting certificate before taking out a cover. We're not convinced we are insured with the cheapest/best insurance company so would like to shop around. But the question is, would we need a recent vetting certificate to take out a new cover? The only one we have is from when we bought our neddy...

Any help appreciated!!

I've just renewed with NFU & they didnt metion this whatsoever, done many quotes online & over the phone & not many do need a vetting certificate atol. Ring around or browse online i presume they would state/say if this was needed!

i know he needed an up to date one when we took out our current one, so im guessing that would mean we needed one if we chose to change, oh well we'll just have to stick with who we're with! thanks

Different insurance companies have different criteria for vettings required so, if your horse is over a certain value for example or age and value then a recent vet cert may be required. However, if your horse is under the value where a VC is required then you should be ok without one and the fact you have been insured previously will affect the criteria too. Insurance companies are not able to access each others records/claims history etc and would only possibly request it if there were any suspicions with a claim. It is down to you to declare whether you have had any claims when you apply for a new insurance policy. If you do not disclose any claims/illnesses your horse has your policy could be voided if it is discovered certain facts were not declared.
