all I can say is if you are in my position grab it with both hands
Although I've been riding for 25 odd years I still am not very good, and at the moment (as I have documented on here) I am bringing on a very green little sports cob - I have great aspirations, but sometimes it does seem to be a case of 'the blind leading the blind' - I am trying to teach him things when I am not familiar with the 'feel' that I'm looking for?
He has had THREE sessions since I posted with my YO and I really cannot believe the difference. His left canter has previously been a work in progress, we have achieved consistent strike off but he can drop into trot very quickly and was still unbalanced with an erratic outline. Now he canters consistently and almost straight, with about 1/10th of the panic and stress he used to have.
He has always loved his jumping but for various reasons we had lost our mojo together and he had decided ducking out or stopping was good. Now he heads confidently and straight towards a fence, but shortens and balances himself on the approach to a fence in a way that delights me. As my YO said, she has installed lift off and brakes
This is really just a random ramble about how delighted I am and how lucky I am! I also have a fabulous flatwork trainer who specialises in pure dressage, I count myself very very lucky. Oh OK I cannot allow them to remain anonymous - if you want a fantastic eventing trainer in Gloucestershire try Vittoria Pannizon, and if you want a fantastic flatwork trainer try Milliepops
