Warning, I might get irritated writing this.

This evening at about 6pm I was walking my dog through the park near where I live, we normally do this to get to the big field on the other side so she can have a good run. My dog is friendly and reasonably well behaved. So there I was tootling along and I take the cut down to the waters edge so my dog can have a splash about. When she is finished I notice 2 dogs racing along the path. So I clip Jess on the lead and keep walking along. When I think we are a safe distance past ( I am quite wary of unknown dogs) I let her off. Next thing I know the same two dogs race up behind me and start attacking my dog, full on. Luckily she has wits and is fast so she runs away as fast as possible to the other side of the park, then the other dogs give up and are called away. I leave my dog where she is and look for the owners of these dogs and I can see two chavvy lads calling their dogs from the other side of the park and I shout 'Get your dogs on a lead!' because by now Jess is cowered to the ground so I have to go over and make sure she isn't badly hurt, luckily she is absolutely fine and is just scared out of her wits. The staffy type dog did have a grip on her back for a good while. I was fuming at them. Literally steam was pouring out of my ears. Bearing in mind we had had a similar type incident about 3 weeks before (different dogs too) and my dog had had to have 5 staples in at the vets and still has a poor little shaved patch.
I mean who has the nerve to not to keep dogs which they CLEARLY know are violent off the lead, or at least they could muzzle them!! It just gives me no hope about how little care some dogs get. Personally I had no quams about dogs who have a 'reputation' like staffys and Bulldogs. No such thing as a bad dog, only a bad owner. I felt like giving them a piece of my mind saying that what if my dog had had a huge chunk out of her back, would you have paid for my vets bill? I think not! I just wish I'd actually found them and got their names and addresses so I could report them to the police. It was suggested to me that if a dog does attack my dog again, I should just kick the dog. But I'd much rather just attack the owner with one of my riding crops !
Some people !! argghh

Biscuits and a cuddle from a poor wimpy dog if you manage to reply :)

Sign of the times I'm afraid. I witnessed a parent allowing their child to piddle down a drain in my local and very busy high street. Standards have dropped, dopey parents, dopey dog owners, dopey horse owners and a succession of dopey Governments. To protect yourself and your dog from the proliferation of dopes in this country, change your route, change your walk times and do what ever is necessary to avoid other members of the general public. :)

oh dear, hope your little doggy isnt too traumatised and it doesnt affect her in long term. I ama lways worried about this- i have a 8month old lab who is so friendly and i dread him saying hi to dogs and ending up being attacked, just the other day we were walking local bridlepath coming back to car had my lad on a lead and a greyhound with 3 older 'should no better' people had 2 others aswell all off lead and this one came over to us and then just snapped at mine luckily he thinks he is 10men as he beats up his big newfy sister so he doesnt bother but one day he may end up in trouble. his recall is good but things like your story are what worry me he loves saying hi as he is just a friendly chap!!

Unfortunately these sort of incidents are not that uncommon and random. I really feel for the people whose dogs have been attacked which in turn has made them aggressive towards other dogs through fear :(

I have gundogs (amongst others;)) who are naturally submissive, and dont "play" with other dogs, they are super obedient, and I always heel them away from others. I am sorry to say that I have taken to pushing away, or shoving other dogs away from them now. Lost count of the amount of times they have been harassed/attacked, and you hardly get an apology :(

I understand that you're angered, and I understand that your blood's up, but sometimes we have to mark things down to experience, and this may be one for you. ;)

A big deep breath, that's what you need. ;)

Alec.

Normally it wouldn't bother me, It's just the fact that she has been attacked twice in a 3 week period. I know these things happen, I just feel sorry for the dogs in question :/

I understand you are angry I would be too and I wouldnt be marking it down to experience either, I would be more proactive than that starting with a chat to the local dog warden.

Forget what I just posted, in your shoes I'd be spitting blood too, and I'd be explaining things to someone. ;) It hurts, and I really do understand.
