Went out this afternoon all hi-vized up, friends daughter in
law riding B (good rider but a novice) and me leading the oldie. Having a lovely time, walking down a fairly narrow country road and five scrambling bikes come up behind us pretty fast, I wave my arm asking them to slow down as B still new to us and is a little unsure of noisy things. I didn't want them all coming past at once, especially with a novice rider on him.

The first bike just blatently ignores me and speeds past making B jump so I shout at the others to please wait while we get the horses into a driveway, was quite polite although I shouted as they obviously had helmets on. Met with a barrage of abuse from one of the remaining four, effing and blinding, basically how dare we tell them what to do!! Thankfully managed to get them into a driveway so the bikes could pass but I was so cross that they were so arrogant.

Five minutes later a police car comes past so I waved him down and told him including which way they'd gone but doubt he'd find them. Such a shame as I have normally found bikers really good and considerate to horse riders!

Rant over, just had to get it off my chest - the rest of the hack was lovely :)

Must have just been a bad bunch.

Bikers are also vulnerable road users so they are usually more considerate.

Sorry you had such a bad experience.

Next time pointat who ever you want to stop for 3 seconds and then hold up the palm of your hand. I can guarantee it will have far more effect than waving your hands.

I find most motorcyclists are pretty good but like horse riders there will always be some that are not!!!

OMG how awful. Had this happen to me: met three scrambling bikes in a narrow bridlepath, nearly sh@t myself! But horse was OK, surprisingly, was just chilled about it all and didn't worry at all. They were polite and switched their machines off. So awful this happened to you, spoils you day when something like this happens. Grrrhhh.

Not a nice experience, but a rare one I think.
I fell of a mare a few years ago, a week or so after she had arrived.
It was illegal bike riders who picked me up, popped me on the back of a bike and got me far enough ahead of her that I was able to catch her before she hit the main road.
Its a silly few that give bikers a bad name!

I completely agree, think I just met two bad ones as to be fair the others were fine. It takes alot though to make me shout at someone as I'm ever so placid but I was worried for girl riding B as like I said she's still a novice and I'd feel responsible. Also I'd be gutted if anything happened to the horses.
