A rather stupid question Re: Bit sizes ..?

Hello everyone this is going to be a really stupid question okay .. but..

The horse that I am buying her bit size is 5 and a quater .. the bits that I have seen are just 5' or 5'5 what size do I get? ive struggled to find one. I just need a simple flexible rubber mouth bradoon? There are loads cheap ones on ebay but its trying to find the size?

get 5.5 and use 'doughnut' bit guards to make up the gap and prevent pinching ;o)

Wider rather than narrower. Before struggling trying to get bit guards on though I'd try the bit as it is (at 5.5") and see how wide it really is. You might not need them.

My new boy apparently needs 5 and 1/4 too so I had the same problem. I bought a 5.5 full cheek snaffle and it fits fine! Neue schule do 1/4 sizes but it depends how much you wanna spend on a bit.

i have seen 5 1/4 before at shows and in mags like robinsons rideaway and derby house or shires sorry cant remember which one
