In my search to find one or two more horses to ride so I can keep riding fit for the horse I will be competing (only ride him once a week) I visited an HHOer who had one or two horses I might like to exercise/school.
First refreshing change is meeting an owner who is calm, quiet, efficient and does know what they are doing
Second refreshing change was the horse I rode. Normally I'm either riding youngsters or horses who have a few issues. Not this one!
Well schooled, brain between his ears and a lovely lad.
Did a bit of work on the flat before being given permission to pop a few fences if I felt like it.
It made such a change to ride a horse that stays in a rythm to a fence, listens to the rider, does what it needs to over the fence and then carries on after the fence as though its on the flat.
Felt great to be able to set the horse up on the turn to a fence and then just sit quietly and let the fence come to us. No drama, no rushing, no backing off.
Reminded me that a) I can still jump a course and b)what horses should be like when jumping.
A real credit to the owner.
Oh and the facilities are every horse owners dream.
Back there this evening for next session
