I got Monty 3 years ago. I had known him before and he found himself in a horrible situation, skin and bone, abandoned and alone. I decided that he deserved a happy ending so I took him on and brought him down south. He was crazy and nappy and took a good few months to settle. His passport says 21 but two EDTs have put him around 30.
He doesn't look or act his age. His legs are a bit stiff but he is still ridden a couple of times a week and looks shiny and well. He had a sharer for a year but after he did a grand's worth of damage to a parked mercedes (silly boy
) she decided she couldn't handle him and didn't want to ride him. I hadn't ridden him in a year as she had him and now I'm riding him again. It's great!
he's a nappy spooky bugger but I'd forgotten what a legend he is. I love him!
Now the dilemma - he was my first horse. I originally had him as a share in Norfolk and after a couple of local shows where he bucked and squealed and totally embarrassed me I decided never to try and do anything again. That was five years ago and he's an all together much more chilled out fellow. I have been doing all sorts with Zoom and I would love to, just once, get Monty bathed, plaited up and take him to a local dressage.
I have only loaded him twice. First, when I got him - it took 2 hours of crazy mental kicking out and rearing to get him on. The second time, was two years ago, I took him to a xc course. It took an hour and a half to get him back on the lorry on the way home and he injured my leg severly when he reared and struck out
He was also absolutely hideously behaved.
My friend has a lorry that we could spend some time getting him used to it before going. He used to event so I'm sure he must have been better behaved before. He has 7 owners in 8 years on his passport so no wonder he's scared of lorries!!
Am I mad to even think of taking him??
He is quite stressy and silly so obviously I don't want to upset him, especially at his age.
I just really want to do SOMETHING on him before it's too late. He's not going to be around much longer and I'd love to have a nice pic of us in our stuff
He moves beautifully even though he's a bit old and manky. He is alot of horse to hold on to when he's excited but if I could keep him together, he'd do a lovely test.
Sorry for the essay........cookies and milk to all that read
