Am sat here in tears as Rosie spangle is not improving and if anything I think she has given up. I posted on Sunday to say she wasnt using one back leg and vet gave painkillers hoping it might be a sprain or stiffness from a fall in the snow (she is almost 14). I have made an appointment to go back tomorrow at 8am to see my regular and very experienced vet but I think maybe her time has come. I know I might be getting ahead of myself but she is an old girl and I think whatever the problem, the treatment and recovery might be unfair on her so have almost convinced myself the right thing to do is PTS. I have been carrying her outside for toilet breaks but she is now struggling to balance to squat, she will eat and drink if I take it to her but isnt really bothered and today seems to have lost her spark :( She and I have been through a lot together, there were times when if I hadnt had Rose to look after I wouldnt be here now. I know Im doing the right thing but this is hurting and I just needed to write it down. Sorry guys.

Oh you poor thing. This is such a horrible time for you - it's the time that every dog owner dreads, yet knows it's inevitable.
You know as much as any caring owner that keeping them going for your sake is never the right decision - if Rosie can no longer take herself to the toilet and there is not a good prognosis then you know what you have to do.
I really hope that your vet can give you good news but if not then you must do the best thing for your lovely girl. You have my heartfelt sympathy.

Aw so sorry, it does sound as if it is more than a sprain.:( If she is losing her spark then as you say maybe her time has come, but knowing you are doing the right thing doesn't make it any less painful, so will be thinking of you tomorrow.

Will be thinking of you in the morning ive gone through it with my old dog just think of what you have given her in all your years together and spoil her rotten tonight and in the morning, when i had Ben PTS i fed him a bar or dairy milk and he loved it.

Sorry to hear your news about Rosie but try not to think the worst until you know more. She might have a more serious injury to her leg which is still treatable so keep her comfortable until you see your own vet and keep positive, for her sake too. They pick up so much from how we react and if you give up on her too early, she might give up too. Wishing you both some good news in the morning

Thanks for all your good wishes last night. Vet is pretty sure its not cruciate, thinks either a tear or similar. Have opted to have a couple of xrays done which he says will confirm whether it is too serious to persevere or whether with nursing and rest she will be OK. I absolutely trust this guy, he is brilliant and tells it like it is so I know she is in the best place. Sat here now waiting for a phone call which will decide what we do so if anyone has any spare vibes going now is a good time please. Thanks again guys x

I feel so sorry for you as we have a 15 yr old whippet who is becoming frailer every week but can still go outside and still wants to eat. We have discussed this and decided that as soon as he cant maintain his dignity then we will make that hard decision. Please understand that this is the last act of love you can do for your best friend. Will think of you at this sad time
