Lost my little doggy last week. He went very suddenly, but it was quick for which I am grateful.

I'm missing him so much. No smiling dog face to greet me in the morning, or when I get home :'(

He was a little rescue dog. We think he was a cross between a Bassett hound and a JRT so we always told people he was a "Fred Russell". He was found on the streets going through bins and taken to the pound. He came to live with us 8 years ago and he was a really happy little chap once he realised he was secure and loved.

RIP Spike. You will never be forgotten.

Here is a few pictures:

Thanks everyone.

amymay - I love your description. He was a darling little man. I would do anything to have him back :'(

The Spikey shaped hole in my heart will take a long time to heal, but I will fill the dog shaped hole in my life with another rescue dog soon :-)

I didn't even know him,but looking at his photos, know I could have loved him too. What an enormous character he must have been. I'm sorry for your loss.

So sorry to hear of your loss. Nothing worse than losing a pet. he obviously had a lovely life with you. xx

Bless him, he was so cute. I love the Fred Russell title too.

Look after yourself, and I hope you find another rescue dog to distract you and to love in the future.xx

He looks like an old version of our boy...who is the sweetest thing and Spike sounds like he was an absolute sweetheart. I am so sorry for your loss and sending lots of hugs xxx

Oh poor you, so sorry you lost Spike, the only slight consolation is that he wasn't ill for long. If I only knew how to post pics I would put one on of my dog Harley he is the spitting image of Spike, especially in the first pic ! He also is what I think is a bassett/jrt but his poor little front legs are bent like a Queen Anne chair !! I've had him for 3 years and like Spike his character changed when settled in to a secure life. What a lucky boy he was when he found you And had a wonderful life. Hugs for you and I hope in time you can find another little rescue to give a lovely life to.

RIP lovely Spike, sounds like he had a wonderful life with you. I talk from recent experience that although its hard to think of getting another it does help fill the void

It is a sad post, but your memories and pics made me smile. if they can make me smile he must have brought you a lot of joy, which looking at him suggests would have made him very happy too. May your heart heal as soon as it can. RIP spike.

Thanks for your kind comments. I had to stop reading this thread last night as it was making me cry again.

He was a little character and he was always so happy to see me. We had a lovely holiday with him at the end of May so I have very happy memories. He really did bring me and my OH a lot of joy over the years.

Everyone, give your dog an extra cuddle tonight from me x

..Oh and maisie, I really want to see a pic of your Fred Russell :-)

Totally my type. Hope you find another to fill his space in your heart eventually. He must have been so grateful to you for those eight years. Huge hugs xx

Sorry for your loss JulesRules, here is Mum's (maisie2) fred russell, Harley, with the funny legs, looks very similar to Spike

Thanks Mil, he's gorgeous. His legs do look more bent and his ears aren't as big as Spike, but he has the same body, big feet and slightly elongated nose. I think we should start the Fred Russell fan club :-)
