On 8th January 2011 right after Christmas, i walked up to the hole in the wall in Tescos car park and emptied my bank account of my last £250, i then got in a hired a horse box and drove over 80 miles to collect my horse of a lifetime which had found herself in unfortunate circumstances... The story to this point goes like this, In 2009 I sold my mare to a friend of a friend, a "forever home" following a tendon injury and change in my circumstances, this "friend" turned out to be a dealer who sold her on within a month, devastated I contacted weatherbys which returned no results and i assumed the worst... I regretted my decision to sell her every day and imagined her in the worst situations, after about my 4th phone call i wrote weatherbys a letter which they attached to her file to forward to her owner should she ever be reregistered - On 8th January out of the blue i received an email from her owner who was lovely but had tragic circumstances herself and the rest is as above!!! She arrived in fairly poor condition and was pretty difficult to start with (breaking head collars, rearing up when being brought in and kicking out when grooming - maybe it was just the move, maybe not) - she was NOT the horse i remembered and I felt I had remembered my time with her through rose tinted glasses, for the first 4 weeks i wondered if i had done the right thing, but by the end of January we were ready for our first outing.....

Look at her now – an 11 year old 15.1hh powerhouse our first show is this bank holiday Monday (ex-racers class), we won’t win (she got kicked in the field so has hoof shaped patch of hair missing on her hip), but I’m so proud of her anyway I just want to show her of - she really is my horse of a life time and tears are welling up in my eyes just thinking about her, I have promised her she will never be sold again she has a home for life if my circumstances change I will loan her but she will always belong to me.

Would love to hear your thoughts on my mare good and bad

Thank goodness you managed to find her. You must have been meant for each other. Congratulations. She's lovely!

Oh wow! what a great ending to a very sad situation! she looks fab and well done to you hope you have many happy years together xxxx

What a great ending, she is fab and looks much bigger than 15.1 :)

Good luck on Monday, we will expect a full report with pictures

She's worth every penny - and extraordinarily lucky to have found someone like you.

All horses are born to be a star of some variety - but it takes the right partnership to show them off!

I haven't sold many, but it cuts me up every time - to build up trust and mutual respect - and then pass them onto someone else - can't do it anymore.

Wishing you both a long and happy future!

Hi all, as promised a quick update and photo from todays show only went and did one ridden class in the end. Came 3rd out of 4 so not so impressive. Feedback from judge was constructive but unfortunately it was me that let her down!!! We got to the show way too late and only had time to do 1 lap of the warm up ring in trot before we had to go in but she was great, walk trot and canter in company which we had not done before. Unfortunately I did quite a hurried and unbalanced individual show nothing like what i had practiced at home! I was also oblivious to the fact that I rode a whole rein on the wrong diagonal! Oh well we can try again.

Well done you for taking the time and effort to find her. She looks really well, she's obviously very happy with you :)

Lovely story, so good to hear a happy ending for a change!

She looks fantastic, you've done a great job turning her round and I bet she's so glad to be back with you. :D

She does look good! Well done, next time you'll be prepared to knock the judge's socks off with your individual show!
I bet you're thrilled with her for behaving so well with no working in.

She was very very good and i would have liked to take her in another class to see how she (and I) did at the 2nd attempt but had to get back as was chauffeured by a friend and did not want to keep her waiting.

What does everyone think of our turnout e.g points to improve im thinking of getting a pair of canary / darker beige jodhpurs and a show hat with flesh harness also how much do you think a double bridle would improve this picture, I have one but would be using a rugby Pelham rather than weymouth bit set, she is usually just ridden in this NS verbindend loose ring (as shown).
