Depends what size the scoop is surely? If I leave other people to make my horses feeds I will say 'a scoop' in my list and leave the appropriate scoop in the feed!

Yeah for feed I would say a standard round Stubbs one - but then a lot of supplements come by the scoop as well and have all different scoop sizes!

What measurement is a Stubbs scoop? ie how many ounces/grams.
I want to measure out a standard scoop without having to buy one (for course mix). They are like sunglasses- I always lose them.

koda you had a post on the othre day about feeding. best to get some measuring scales and weigh it, so you know how much you are feeding and can adjust the weight. then decant into your own scoop /bowl then you will know. but yes the round bowl scoop is fairly standard in the horsey world!

One scoop of different feeds will weigh a different amount as some are more dense than others.

There are two ways to get around this - buy a scoop and weigh one scoop of each feed that you use

or

say you want to feed one kg of nuts a day - find a container that holds exactly 1kg of said nuts (again some weighing will be required) and use this as a scoop.

I'm afraid you will have to mess about with scales if you want to get your horses feeding regime right but surely it is worth it.

ETA - v.v.roughly, IF i remember correctly, I think a stubbs scoop of a chaff-type product will be approximately 500g, a mix will be about 1kg, and nuts will be 1.5-2kgs. This is not reliable though, just what I've found with the feeds I've used!!
