I posted earlier on the vets forum but I feel like I want to rant / cry!

In December my mare was out for a month due to a pastern injury on her left fore.

Last week she managed to get a puncture wound in her right hind fetlock which she was sore on so gave her box rest for a couple days. Asked YO her opinion & she said she was fine. We even went out jumping.

Now she’s got heat on her LEFT HIND pastern vet coming tomorrow but have felt anxious all day about it and can’t seem to concentrate on anything else other than what I think it could be.

Yard think it’s pelvic related so chiro on Monday too.

Stressed about what it could be / how serious / how long she will be out for / how much it will cost.

wondering why and how all of a sudden these things are happening? She is a tb but she lived out overnight in summer last year and had no problems. Slowly brought her back into work in jan, and nothing severely changed with her work load.

is someone cursing me? Should I just give up? Feel like I get excited about making progress then it’s 20 steps back again.?

Thank you, I really hope so.

is it bad I’m partially thinking there’s something not quite right with the yard as well I don’t understand how it’s possible to cut her leg twice in 2 fields? Or is that crazy horse mum vibes?

It is always sensible to walk the edge of the field to check the fencing. I also keep an eye out whenever I am in the field for lost shoes, other stuff etc... I've found that TB's do get more cuts unfortunately. My old TB managed to give herself a nasty over reach injury once (and she was unshod) and then managed to cut her chest and had a massive haematoma between her front legs due to that for a couple of weeks.

Thank you! I really hope so. Not to mention both times she's injured herself I've been gearing up for a show!! I know that's irrelevant in the grand scheme of things as I just want her to be sound but it's still annoying!

Accidents happen! Chances are that a few painkillers later, everything will be as right as rain. Is she turned out with others? Our lot have a mad gallop round the field at least once a day now the daylight hours are changing. Lots of bucking and kicking and everyone prancing and snorting. Very easy to catch a turned-up stone or the edge of a shoe.

She was turned out with one other and has always been pretty calm.

After that she was turned out alone in a diff field. She can see other horses, but maybe it’s a boredom thing?? She puts the mare in nightmare!!

Update: vet prescribed bute for a couple days, and to be ridden on Sunday to see how she goes. Nothing stood out to her i.e no swelling / heat / points of serious pain.

I am so worried that this is going to be something much more serious and potentially career ending.

Chiro out on Monday too so wait for that verdict.

Did the accidents start happening when she was turned out alone? Was she a lot happier when with the other horse? Maybe it's a stress thing. Seeing horses across the fence is so very different to being with them.

she had a companion when she did the first cut, then when she went sound I turned out alone in fear of her going loopy causing damage to another horse.
