Today was B's second BD outing of the winter season. Having surprised ourselves by winning the qualifier at Oldencraig a few weeks a god i was secretly a bit hopeful we might repeat the performance and get the rest of our regionals qualification. Haha...we'll lets just say today will teach me to be hopeful ;) :p

Brought in an animal more like a hippo than a horse yesterday afternoon and spent hours scrubbing. Don't ever buy a grey :( Set of to Cobham Manor at a leisurely 10am. We were entered for Novice 34 and Elementary 53........our first elementary other than an unaffiliated one a few months ago (and that was E44 which barely counts as an elem anyway :p)

We were running very late, not helped by my husband getting us into a right pickle in a petrol station by trying to get the diesel nozel around the wrong side of the lorry despite my assurances it wouldn't reach. Guess what? It didnt fit....... much swearing, reversing and annoying other cars later we finally got on our way. About 30seconds from arriving (half an hour late already), we met a lorry coming the wrong way down the lane (there have a one way system in and out as narrow lanes) so much more swearing and reversing later and we finally arrived!

Literally threw tack on and went into warm up. It's pretty tight and it was quite busy. We nearly got mown down by someone admiring themselves in mirror - not amused, especially as i didn't get an apology until i made an angry comment. Anyway fortunately B seemed in a calm and relaxed mood. He's been VERY fresh recently and kindly dumped me in the school yesterday so i was a little concerned about how he'd behave! Into ring for our go and suddenly my lovely calm pony switch to naughty spooky pony. Lets just say the first few movements weren't too pretty :( Spooking at a pile of jump wings outside arena on a circle resulted in him cantering sideways.

I was very very cross, he is not scared at all and really takes the pee. I told him off firmly (perhaps too firmly for the ring, judge put 'over-aided' ooooops!) but it worked and he snapped out off it. Annoyingly though i think these first few stupid naughty moments cost us our regionals place. I got 64.58%, winner on 66% and placings in between. My first few movements were 5's (and some of those were generous!), last 3 movements 8, 8, 9!!! Second ever 9!!!! Judge made some lovely comments and seemed to sympathise.

Had about an hours break in which temperature really dropped and i lost the feeling in my toes! Back on for elem warm up. He was just super super super in warm up, he's really giving me glimpses of how good he might be at some point. Test was in same scary ring and he tensed up when we went back in. Not quite as badly behaved as last test and i was very pleased with some parts. Got 62.69% which i'm thrilled with tbh. When he'll give me what i get in warm up in ring he'll easily be very competitive at Elem and gives me lots to aim for with moving him slowly up the levels....i hope he can go up a fair few. Only 4 scores up when i left but i was in lead - not expecting i stayed there as some proper horses in warm up but will ring up in a bit and find out.

I have discovered i've slowly turning into a BD brat without even realising......today is first time i've left a BD comp with B without a rosette in hand. And i didn't like it, moaned all the way home! Someone slap me please!!!!

I have a lovely red on the go for anyone who made it through the essay. :) :) :)

P.S. There may or may not be some Blue and White in your H&H this week, see if you can spot us :p :p

He is truly stunning!
You've just made me want to pull my traditional's mane in the hope that he might look like your horse (here's to dreaming!)

Phew! I thought 3 white legs were bad enough .

I'm a bit like you rosette-wise I'm afraid but just think how many classes you will win when it's less spooky. Who wanted to go to the Regionals anyway? ;)

he really has got the most fabulous canter!!!! and the med trot pic shows how much stronger he's getting-so much more uphill but with neck out and bum really tucked under, clever chap :)

great scores still and some more shiney points, dont be too disheartened.

Not a good start to your day!

B looks stunning in the pics you must be very excited about his future.

Re the Hippo look, sorry, he is a mere beginner, Dark_Knight and I have decided the only way forward with 5 of our mud encrusted, mud dread locked, bays is to deny ownership of them:D. Little do they know that revenge is on the way, a week in the D_K beauty salon, they are about to be subjected to the wash, brush up and clip the likes that hasn't been seen before! Then the work schedule starts and we might actually get to compete:D

Sounds like you had quite a day! He looks lovely in your photos. Cobham can be a good place for spook excuses to. Will you try to get your qualifier anywhere else before the end of the month? I know oldencraig have a few shows on but have not looked to see what classes.

Thanks :) B's mane looks like a bog brush if left to it's own devices! Takes some serious taming to get in plaits (usually involving scissors, mane comb and blisters!)....and they still look like golf balls!

I've got i habit of it i think.....maybe this will teach me a valuable lesson and i'll be more grateful for good results in the future ;) I have got some more entered for next weekend which really will be last chance saloon. I reckon regionals are soooooooo overated anyway. I'll save the money for xc school or hunting or something proper ;)

Thank you - i forgot about points, 5 new ones :) :) And i guess 2 at our first elem isnt bad. Thanks for the comments, i feel like he's a different horse to ride now and when it's good its amazing. We'll get it in the ring i hope. Canter is my favourite bit - wonder if he will be able to canter pirouette one day :p :p Now i really am dreaming...... ;)

At least yours are bay though! Makes the cleaning much easier - i so miss a shiny brown horse! The jet hose is a magical invention!! B need clipping again.....will be 3rd time!

Thanks :) He's so naughty as he's really not scared, especially of jump wings and poles....he's evented all season!

I've got Pachesham next saturday which is last one i cant get too. Never expected to qualify really but now i'm half way there i suddenly really want to!!!

You are turning into a Diva:D;):D Fancy getting grumpy cos you didnt get a rossie!!
I do think its something in the air cos i went SJ today and my coloured boy broncked his way round the warm up and very nearly dumped me!:o
Someone called him a Sports cob! Felt like a Naughty cob to me.
Got to love these coloureds though havent you. They do have a lot of character

Dreadful isn't it?! But i'm not happy unless i'm in the ribbons, stupidly competitive on the flat!

I called B something entirely different to either sports or naughty cob in the ring i can tell ou :p ;)

that hind leg has got tempi's and canter P's written all over it! if Bruce can do it, im 200% certain he can too.

I hope so :) I have been told by a couple of people now that he has the movement/power/action to do most/all movements and it'll be so much fun to learn new things with him, luckily he's very trainable too. We're just at the point now where anything new is new to me too, i've never competed at Elem before him either so blind leading blind really! I do have an instructor who knows what they're doing luckily!
