A completely self indulgent post, so apologies in advance
I've been out of riding for a good few years and have recently got back into it. I had a really good lesson this weekend, just concentrating on my position. I had it drummed into me all those years ago that you had to force your heels down, so whenever I ride now I put all of my weight down my right leg into the outside of my right foot and force my heel down, which results in pain! This then in turn forces my lower leg forward, I collapse at the hips and it all goes pear shaped!
Anyway, the lesson will have looked incredibly dull to anyone watching as all I was doing was walking and trotting, but by the end of it I managed to get the 'feel', which in turn helped my balance. I was working on keeping my legs soft, more weight onto the balls of my feet and rising from the hips and not the feet, if that makes sense.
So, it was a real turning point in my riding, am very pleased, and it's done my confidence the world of good
Onwards and upwards!
