I would love to know how much you think my new loan horse is worth...I would love to buy him one day, so just wondering what sort of money I would be looking at now.

He's a 7yr old dutch warmblood, 16.1hh, bay gelding, ridden in a snaffle, forward going, can get very excited, so not an easy ride, jumps 1m20 with ease (only started 'proper' jumping with me.) Doesn't bat an eyelid at fillers/ xc fences! Has 3 great paces, if trainer rode him more he could start to learn things like piaffes and canter pirouettes... Grand sire is Voltaire. good to box, shoe, clip..etc..etc! But not very good to hack out

He can be quite strong on the ground, although he does have manners! He has to be ridden every day, which does make it quite difficult! And when he isn't warmed up properly there is a clicking sound coming from his hind quarters...

thanks

The only thing I would say is, if you want to buy him, can you agree a price on him now? The reason I ask is, if you have started jumping him at some serious heights, over time he is likely to become worth more; equally, that clicking needs checking out - it could affect his value either way; plus in case it is being exasperated by the jumping.

When I loaned my SJ we agreed a price at the beginning so I would agree with that. You don't want to spend time and money improving the horse to cost yourself money in the future if the owner sells. I ended up selling my horse to her for the agreed price, despite the fact he was worth considerably more. I was happy as I new it was a good home and I had no selling costs.

You don't mention if he has any competition record, but at a guess with his problems I would have thought £2500ish max

thanks. He has a few BD points but not that many. Have talked to vet and he said that we shouldn't worry about the clicking (same as osteo, chiro...etc!) It's just a funny noise! And some days you can't hear it! It was just a bit unnerving at the begining!

MrsMozart: thats why I'm trying to think about a price now! Because we have talked about it, but I honestly think that the owner wants too much

LOL!! I was struggling to see a stride into the bigger jumps so trainer put them like that, not for him at all!!
