It's been a pretty tough few days. We very suddenly and unexpectedly lost my dad on Friday which of course has left us all absolutely devastated and in a complete state of shock.
I took some nurofen Fri night and, given my current state of mind, just forgot to lock them away and left them on bedside cabinet. Got out of the shower Sun lunch time to find the packet on the lounge floor my 15 month old whippet having ingested 2 and a half tablets. Rang vets immediately and took him straight in where they made him vomit and gave charcoal and got him on a drip to support kidneys/liver
He was at the vets on a drip for 48 hours as a precaution but has shown no symptoms of toxicity at all and repeated bloods shown liver/kidney function completely normal - thank god. The bill - an eye watering £450 but I am just so relieved he is ok
Having had drugs like tramadol prescribed for dogs and 'human' medications prescribed for horses, I will admit, I wasn't aware ibuprofen was so toxic to dogs. So expensive lesson learned and just thankful I contacted vet immediately - this I think made all the difference. To have lost my beloved dog on top of everything else would have crucified me right now
