Vet came today to inject his joint to try and help his sprain heal a little bit better, and as it was on his back leg he said he would sedate just to be on the safe side. Then realised that I appear to own more of a donkey than an Irish, so we decided we would just twitch him. Once he fell asleep (without the twitch) as his leg was being clipped, we opted to just do it with a front leg being held up. Local anasthetic went in...nothing. Injection went in...he rested the full weight of his head (a lot of weight at that) on my arm and went back to sleep. The vet summed it up by telling me my horse is an absolute dude and I should count myself very lucky :D

Even better, after weeks and weeks of time off for every possible problem under the sun (I think he does it on purpose? See "Request to join I Own a Knobber thread) in 7 days time we can resume full on proper ridden work! Poor donkey horse wont know what has hit him...

To go from one vet suggesting I have him PTS as he will never be good for anything other than hacking, to know we can go back to full work in a matter of days, has rounded this year off perfectly I think. :D

Sounds like it is well on the mend; I know what you mean about the dobbin like horse - mine had great fun watching the picture on the screen last time he was ultrasounded (without sedation)

So pleased for you x

Oh goodness mine would probably start licking the ultrasound machine! My farrier disagrees considerably that he is part donkey (although we now know that what we thought was him getting fed up was him probably in a bit of pain holding his foot awkwardly) but my Irish dentist thinks he is fab...could possibly think why
