Yesterday my dads new horse (on loan) was taken out to the field as per normal. He seems a nice horse and easy to do. However, in his moment of madness my dad forgot to do the hind leg straps up on the horses' rug. He realised this when he got through the gate. In another moment of madness he also failed to close the gate. What he did next is unbelievable, he TIED the horse to the OPEN gate (lead rope to metal gate) to enable him to get the leg straps on.
Can you imagin what happened next??
The horse panicked, pulled back, taking the entire gate with him (clean off the hinges). He then galloped off in the feild before, luckily, being caught and freed from the gate.
Amazingly, no damage was done to the horse - the gate is a bit bashed and has come off worse.
The horse - Forest, is ok. My dad is stupid, he will never learn, its not the first crazy stunt he has tried.
Now, the story gets deeper. Apparently the neighbours horse who is in the field next door also panicked with seeing the horse v gate and also galloped round. He then 'tied up' badly and is at the vets undergoing tests. Is dad to blame for this horse? - oh dear, maybe he will learn - in his next life!
Should add, I did not see this, I had my dad visiting and he told me!!
