And was tacking Big Oscar up and he flung his head in the air which he doesn't normally do. (Take into account that he is a big heavy horse.) On closer inspection I found a HUGE lump on the side of his neck, but below his mane and behind his ear it was very very hot. What more, was there was a wet sticky something over it

It was like hair gel, but it wasn't and it didn't smell of anything. told Jay and she didn't know what it was and Krystina (dept. head first aider human and horse) couldn't think what it was either. He has sweet itch and was rubbing his left side a few times and I saw him rub his right once but he doesn't like rubbing the right side because Lady nips him if he does. It looks as though he had taken a blow but really unsure. Have been texting jay and she said it went down with ice on it but is still hot. So if anybody has any ideas as to what it is when can pass them on to her.

Thanks.

Lizzie x

ps. Good vibes that Oscar is okay please!!

The sticky stuff is likely to be serum and released from under the skin.
It sounds like a nasty horsefly bite which will produce these symptoms.
I would apply aloe vera gel as often as possible or an anti histamine cream.
Just be certain it isn't an abcess which you would treat very differently (though aloe won't harm one)
The ice was a good idea too.

Thank you. YO got back late and he'd been already been turned out. They put the ice on and just held it there and it went down. They're going to leave it over night and if it's not better tomorrow do something alse with it. Not sure what though as not up there for another 3 weeks

Just hope he's okay though.
