I'm posting to ask you all to PLEASE be carefull when with your horses. A local woman has died after being in a coma for over a year after falling from her horse :(
She had no hat on and the horse spooked and bronked her off. I remember the air ambulance coming in to land as I was riding B in the paddock.

So please all be carefull and THINK about what you are doing :(

It can happen so easy and to any one off us.
How about trying to get a certain young lady on here to read and take it in!!!
Cause she's a accident waiting to happen, just started a thread about her 5 yr old doing flat work/jumping with video.

God, I wish the two numpty teenagers and their even more numpty mother could read this, but I know they dont come on here as they reckon its for saddos. Ride all the time in the arena without a hat on because 'They know their horses are safe' and mother smiles along with them when they say it. Grrrrrrrrrrrrr, stupid, stupid. Whose the saddo now?

RIP.

oh how terrible that such a fun and beautiful thing as horseriding can end up so ugly!!! and such a small thing as a hat can change it all!!! :(

Extremely sad :(

Even if a horse is 100% safe, you never know when one day the horse may spook randomly or get stung by a wasp and buck. A horse is never 100% safe in my opinion, I always wear a hat and 9 times out of ten wear a body protector.

When I was a teenager ("quite" a long time ago!) I had a bad fall when the horse I was riding slipped on the road. I hit the tarmac head first and ended up unconscious in hospital with a cracked skull. Hats were not as good in those days as they are now, but even so mine definitely saved my life/head. A horse does not have to be misbehaving or out of control for riders to have life threatening falls

A hat and high - viz is just like a seat belt. Designed to help save your life. Life which is very precious and which we all tend to take for granted....!

How awful :(

I'm suprised at the number of people on here who say they don't where hats! Especially shocked at the older more mature members. Think of those you would leave behind. Experience won't stop a horse spooking.

I have a friend who doesnt wear a hat sometimes. But its stupid, because she wears a hat for flat work and schooling etc, but jumping bareback, bridless and sometimes backwards, she thinks she doesnt need to wear one!!

I have given up trying to get her to wear one. :(

Backwards!! You sure she hasn't already fallen off and banged her head?
