Background - I haven't really ridden for the last 2 years except for the odd 5 minutes on a pupils horse to demo something.

Last sunday I started riding a rather lovely ISH that needs a bit of education.
So I schooled sunday and monday, tuesday and wednesday she had off which was just as well due to me walking in a slightly unconventional style. Last night we schooled again but atleast today my walk is slighly less stilted.

Now for the pain part. Mare needs variety so tonight I'm doing a little jumping. Saturday and sunday morning I've agreed to hack out with owners husband. He's just sent me the proposed routes. Both about 2 hours if we push on and apparently there are some really good canter / gallops on the routes.
Sunday afternoon I'm schoolng a horse for a pupil who is having trouble with basic lateral stuff.
Monday schooling ISH again.

I really didn't think all this through did I?
Anyone got a spare pair of crutches?

Actually I share your pain. I've had a year out, more or less, got two back in work a week ago, just re-started the third today after sitting on him yesterday. Luckily as they've all had time out as well it's all pretty low key so we can build up together. I just hope they don't feel as sore in the muscles as I do.

I'm the same! I had to give my horse a few months off mainly due to my ill health and his ulcers, though I've been concentrating on walking him out in hand to build his confidence up on the roads and keep him fit. Had a ten minute ride yesterday and half an hour pottering about on him today... I feel like I've galloped the length of the UK!

Arnica Gell is the stuff you need - the green goop in a tub from NAF is excellent. Or so I found when I tried riding a friend's 17.1 monster after several years off! Apply plenty and massage in, but then wear something a bit baggy until it has soaked in properly as it's a bit on the soggy side . . . .

Oh, and if you can take it - Nurofen Plus before bed. A combination of the two should see you right - well at least left walking a little more like normal and less like a cowboy!
