Right... what do I enter! The CCI*, Int or the JN2D...

Horse was an absolute superstar at Pontispool today. Did a shitty dressage (40) but then mother just fainted so had left her in lorry with friend and once she came around leggged it over with absolute no work in... dressage wise3 hes coming through to a contact at novice stuff where you have something technical and then a few seconds of non complex stuff to restablish contact, he gets low 30s/high 20s... but at intermediate tests where theres no restablishment time he struggles... Isla Auty sat on him on Tues morning and she couldn't believe just how much he avoids you having any contact compared to how he looks, so atleast the poor marks aren't entirely down to my riding!
smile.gif
Im not worried about it as I think its something a winter of elementary tests will solve its just something i'm keeping in the back of my mind for Aldon.

He SJed like a pro today, despite my many many misses! He tries so hard not to hit them and he was one of only 3 or 4 clears in his section today
smile.gif
So the SJs not an issue for me!

XC I was v worried about as the mother was not looking clever. Set off in rubber dummy snaffle again and he was v strong in it so it takes me ages to set up but if I dare to put anything stronger in his mouth he has a nervous breakdown... I think that will come with his contact issues but atm its a big no no! Also I need to learn to stop being such a control freak! He was clear... I had to circle between 7 and 8 (brush upright, left sharp turn, up to a skinny roolltop on a little hill thing) as he jumped so big and in a rubber dummy I didn't stand much hope, he jumped a few complexes like a complete pro and then the second water, which resembled chepstow... A sizeable drop in which the neurologically challenged horse decided it was best to try and do a belly flop and landed with all four feet at the same time about half way through the pond
smirk.gif
so turned to jump the first angled rolltop (19b - 19a was the drop in) but circled before the second one 20 as he had jumped like such a dork in that I couldnt really make it! Then absolutely flew home! There was a feeder into the shade then out of the shade (half a dozen strides) to a massive corner on a curve and after Berringotn I was so worried but he was such a good boy
grin.gif
Then took the long route at the bruch combination as straight route involved two angled upright brushes going downhill and at this stage I wanted my double clear!! So took 3 long routes and got masses of timefaults but today I don't mind, he was double clear around an intermediate

Think the issues Xc are a combination of things... muggins needs to kick herself into not setting up until a bit closer! We need to find an alternative to dummy as when I go to take a contact in it it just bends so its all or nothing which wastes alot of time... And also neither of us are used to the extra fences you get in an intermediate combination and Im not the worlds best pilot so I dont really give him the best chance hence the long routes!

So hes entered into WW novice HC, Dauntsey IN, Mount Ballan ON... but then not sure what to enter at Aldon? The JN2D, Int or CCI*? Or I could chase that rather attractive prize money in the OPN3day

(jokes)... what would you do?

Cookies if you get this far! And sorry for the appauling spelling!!

Brilliantly well done - you deserve this end to the season, it's not been the best has it?

In all honesty, having walked Hartpury, Chepstow and Aldon CCI* courses, I'd say Aldon is not as big and certainly not as long as Hartpury, and Chepstow is off my list until they sort out whatever is wrong with the water.

In terms of Aldon - last years CCI* was identical to this springs intermediate, bar a possible couple of softened fences - so I'd say you'll cope fine with the CCI*.

ETA - hope your mum is ok - is she poorly?

No hasn't been the best by a long way... still wishing for another 2005!

Hmmm and I suppose the time isn't as fast as the intermediate... just the bloody dressage!!!

I think she's ok... she had to fire her practice manager yesterday as she had nicked a rather large (think tens of thousands!) sum of money off her... so i think it was just the stress of that getting to her... poor mother! She was much better for walking down to the xc and was normal after I had finished... the starter asked me to stop her going to the start box or take a bottle of whiskey with us as she was getting rather excited! Got someone else to drive us home (he lives in Filton) and shes normal now... clutching the normal glass of wine...

would it not be quite fun to end with the JN2D. as the dressage is easier and you will wizz round the jumps and end the season on a high!
well done today... btw i would be happy with 40 in an int test!

Well done - double clear round an Int is a GREAT result especially after this season's traumas! You should be really delighted and be clutching a large ?pimms/wine/gin? of your own to celebrate
smile.gif

RE Aldon, I'm sure you'd cope with 1* or Int easily, depends really what you want: fun trip away=1*, pushing yourselves for next year=Int, best chance of winning=2DN?? I would follow my instincts I think - you probably know what you want to do
wink.gif
BTW, the 1* is what the really discerning riders are targetting I believe

I'm going to substitute him in, as Nora had an ulcer setback a few events ago when we dropped her dose... so wanted to do 2 good unaff runs before we took her affiliated again and was going to take her somewhere today but its been cancelled
frown.gif
so don't really feel confident enough to take her BE yet!

Hes absolutely fine, there was a massive skinny corner in the shade towards the end of the course and there was a long shot or a deep one... we went for the long one lol! I don't actually think the fall shook him at all, and i know it sounds weird but i was glad i never stepped back down to PN after it...

Hows your v gorgeous ginger horsie now? x

hes larrrvely thanks, did the unaff PN at tweseldown last weekend (which was pretty much over the novice course according to the EWW photos!) and he did a double clear (dressage judge didnt like me) to come 6th which was fab, and he just skipped round, so fingers crossed hes going to be hunky dory at novice - its taken me a while to get my confidence back after wilton if im honest !
