...... fellow HHOers.

I got up this am and tried no painkillers and it failed. Saw Jim and Jelly in their field and went to get the in. had to make Jelly's b fast and that hurt them went to Jims stable and had to pull the bank over the mess that was his bed to at least try and let some on the wet get soaked up by the drier shavings, and this really hurt and if anyone found out I did it I would be in big trouble.

Got the horses in and took rugs off, it hurt and jelly pushed me at one point and I got angry and hit her, which was a completely horrid thing to do but my back spasmed when she pushed me and I as only trying to get her fly mask off. so gave her a oh my goodness I am a terrible human being cuddle, and hated myself and left, in a serious amount of pain and wet back to bed.

I was so desperate to do jims feet, sort his bed which is just so wet and smelly, give him some hayledge and also brush him. I think I am asking to much of the owner of Jim who I loan him off. Its been 5 days now and I cannot see an end in sight.

I am thinking I should ask her to see if she can take them back to her friends where they were for a week to eat the grass down, so that jim can be out 24/7. She cant turn him away here as we have no grass and I actually cant see me being back in action for at least another week. not being able to muck out, poo pick, brush etc. She keeps the polo ponies at another yard too, where she might be able to take them short term, but they dont have a school there. What do you think? it means Jim wont get looked after well, but at least he will be out 24/7 with grass which is better than coming in to a stinky stable and hay, and it will also take pressure of my friend.

Really am not sure what to do so all thoughts, advice welcome.

Ok, is anyone on here close enough to you to come muck the boxes out? Its DEFINITELY not something you should be doing and if I was close enough I'd pop over and help you out.

Don't worry about losing your temper, you said sorry. But it is best to stay away from them if they are going to hurt you every time they shift - cos if they're anything like mine, they are constantly headbutting me!!!!!

Keep up with the painkillers, its not brave or clever not to take them!

Hugs lovely. If you fancy a chat pm me I'm in all day! xxxx

Oh and yes, I would definitely whack them out if its possible, they'll be fine until you're fighting fit again xxxx

Take your painkillers!!

See how you feel when you have taken them - things always seem worse when you are in pain. They are obviously turned out in the day - can they be turned out with hay/haylage at yours 24/7? Just a thought as it may save moving them etc.:o

Is there absolutley no one nearby who can help you out?

yes you are asking a question you have already answered yourself. Put them out and they will be fine just watch their weight. Take care of yourself.

I could turn them out here but we have awful flies here and Jim in particular charges around the field to get away from them (we live right next to a woods) and he gets v sweaty and hot doing it, which creates more flies and its a loosing battle. He isnt very clever. Jim is not pushy but Jelly is, and today was the first day I did it all by myself without dad bringing in Jelly and I regret it. Hmm, will talk to Lyn and see what she thinks. There are people I could ask for help, but there busy and I dont want to make there already hectic weekends even worse. My parents wont help either both also suffer from bad backs and I forgo that priveledge long ago when my mum told we I had to look after the horses myself if I wanted to keep them.

would just like to also say that Jim and Jellys owner is a very busy lady. she has a new puppy, her son to look after and his polo ponies, and a busy job and she has done her best as she has to come up here and then to the polo ponies before work and then here and then back to the polo ponies and back home to the puppy. She is getting jelly ready for an event this sunday and is just too busy and I feel very bad as she is rushing around and getting stressed and I just want to make it easier for her.

also so if posts have sounded a little grump this morning I am also sorry, pain has made me grump as I feel useless.

I think your friends need to man up and help you! It takes half hour to muck out two boxes, put new shavings down and leave again!

I've had bad backs in the past. You will not improve if you're mucking out, and feet picking out is one of the worse positions for your back! You really ought to try and rest it. It will probably take at least a couple of weeks before you start feeling any improvement.

Can your parents or friends not help you out? Even if you sit by to supervise them if needed? If there really isn't anyone to help you in your hour of need, then I would turn them out 24/7.

You wont get better and you'll be useless for longer if you keep trying to do all the daily chores yourself when you should be in bed. xxx.

I've got a bad back too, and when it hurts - it hurts ! I'm lucky my hubbie can take the strain those days, but funnily enough, riding helps to keep the muscles round my lower back in shape, which reduces the problem.

Like said above, if you were near to me, I'd come and help you, no problem at all. There is nothing worse than feeling so helpless. Just a thought - would a fly rug help with the flies ? If not, I'd get them moved to another paddock and keep them out.

Hope you feel better soon, ((((((((((((hugs))))))))) sm x

I'm sure your friends would help if only you would ask them. People always rally round when people need help and I'm sure your friends would be no exception.
Otherwise your options are...Trying to find somewhere they can be on 24/7 turnout so mucking out and stable duties aren't needed. Find a yard where they can go on full livery for a couple of weeks or ask if anyone on here that lives near you that could lend a hand, even if it was a couple of hours a week.
I would come and help but Cheshire is a bit of a drive from you but if you wanted to put them on livery at the yard I'm on for a few weeks i would gladly look after them for you.

Bay_Beasty I cannot help you ref the horses but I have seen your post about your fall.

You need painkillers rest and gentle exercise. Severe Bruising which I assume you have takes a long time to heal and can be more painful than a fracture.

Someone has to help you out you cant do everyone elses worrying I am still a little stunned that parents in the Medical profession didnt drive you straight to A & E.

Did noone at A & E tell you to rest?? You need painkillers anti-inflammatories and possibly an ice pack.

Dear All, thanks for replies. Flibble I have received an apology from my Father and his behaviour towards me on tues, no harm done. Yes lots of rest needed and lots of rest being taken along with a lot of drugs which a making me feel poisoned but am doing them anyway :D. Horses go out with fly rugs and masks but they dont stop the massive horse flies and bot flies in out area, which is what send jim charging round the field. Mum has sad she will help me tomo, and we are going to get the bed sorted and then talk to lyn about even just sending them somewhere for 4/5 days to ease her work load as I feel it is all too much for her.

Thanks for all your help. will keep you posted

:) :D :) :D

A useful tip for horses badly bothered by flies is to thoroughly spray fly rugs & fly masks (apart from the area over the eyes) with fly repellent, or even diluted Dettol. Easy to do but it can make a lot of difference.

I haven't seen your other post but I assume you've seen a doctor if this is the result of a fall. Can they give you stronger painkillers? I agree that you need to take any meds regularly, they build up in the system & without them you'll end up doing more damage by trying to compensate & throwing other areas out. I know, I've tried coping without & it made matters a hundred times worse!

If your back is going into spasm then I'd suggest going to a good physio - try to get a local recommendation. Where in Berkshire are you, maybe someone on here could suggest one?

Lots of gentle (((hugs))), it's miserable constantly hurting & being unable to do even the simplest things.

I can't help re the horses other than to say turn them out! Right, your back, you need to take the painkillers AND the diazipam as directed! When you have pain in your back your muscles tense automatically and this causes more pain, The painkillers help to relieve some of the pain, the ibuprofen helps reduce swelling therefore reducing pain even more but the diazipam works as a muscle relaxant and helps immensely to reduce the pain. If you are not taking them as directed then they don't get chance to work properly together and you don't really benefit.

Word of caution though, don't stay on the diazipam for more than a few weeks if you can help it. I had them and didn't realise that they are valium and very addictive, I became severely addicted after being on them for 9 months and kept just upping my dose and repeating my prescriptions earlier and earlier without realising just how bad it was (and without the doctors noticing!). They are brilliant if you use them for just a short time in your circumstances and really can make a difference. You should also be resting as much as possible and only pottering about in between rests to keep yourself mobile. Please make time for yourself to heal because otherwise, like me, you will end up dragging it out, I ended up having surgery on mine because I 'couldn't' rest when I should have done. It is so much better to take the time out now rather than waiting for your body to make you stop and then taking ages to recover.
