Probably overreacting and freaking out but I entered a combined training competition a couple of weeks ago and have been unable to find the test...all sorted tonight (or perhaps not) but i discover it is in LARGE dressage arena:confused:. I have NEVER been in et alone competed in a LARGE arena....movements ren't too bad but bloody hell i'll never remember whhere they are supposed to be...........................................

so please i am on my hands and knees do any of you have any clever ideas/tricks etc. to help me learn arrangement of letters for large arena??????????????????????????????

I genuinely think mum is going to murder me as competition is next week..................please help me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:(

galaxy counters for most successful ideas :)

Draw it out with coloured pens
black for walk, blue for trot, red for canter etc do it over and over again dont assume you know it. then do it again without anyone to prompt you until you know it in your sleep. Works for me and mine

I usually do this with small arena...

Would you say if I learn order of movements , where they are etc and sort of forget about letters I'd be ok???

I'd go with this. I hate dressage as I struggle to remember tests and where I'm doing what. Forget the letters just get in your head where you're doing what. It'll work! :)

That's what I do - I remember the pattern and order and location of things (like circle in middle, canter next corner) etc rather than the actual letters (though I check them to make sure). I find it a lot easier to remember it visually that way than trying to remember both which letters things happen at and where they are!

I try not to practice the full test very often anyway so my horse won't predict it, but now we don't have a full size arena I'll be forced to do it like this. Remember the pattern but practice the parts individually :) Good luck!

Ride it in your mind. I am the most un visualising person ever but if I plot it in my mind as if I was riding it then it flows a lot better.

This is what I do too! :)

I write the test out as described above..over and over again lol, then walk it out a few times on foot in the arena. Once I have done that I practice the movements individually, then maybe 2 at a time so I get the next movement in my head. I only ever ride the full test through a couple of times as I also don't like the horse to predict what is coming next.

If you need to remember where the letters go I use

But to be honest this only helps me know where to put them in the arena. I never actually use it when riding!
Good Luck
