Can you put them on animals?

Don't know about over there, but over here they are put in the microchips in horses and dogs. They have a GPS tracking system in them. Two of my dogs are having them injected into them at the beginning of the year.

Sorry to hear of the break-in. Does no-one live on-site at your yard? Did the door have a dead-bolt lock on it? If not, then I'm surprised that your YO can get insurance as this was a stipulation when I insured my yard in England - and I lived on the premises with dogs loose at all times.

I don`t know if it was you akelly or another Irish poster, but weren`t you having road work nearby?, perhaps they saw something.

No, that wasn't me. There haven't been road works around the place since I've moved in.

No no one lives on site, although there is planning permission for the YO to build her house there.

They don't have dogs roaming free, but that's going to change I believe. (As long as I don't get savaged as I'm the first one up to the yard in the morning!)

The tack room door is of heavy metal design but it was bolted and it was welded to the door. But the loops were weak and the crow bar made short work of it.

I'm currently looking into alarms for the new horse truck and my trailer. I'm afraid they are going to return to get the trailers

I'm nervous just thinking about it now! I may go up on my lunch break to check out the place. I mean the thieves had an easy time of it last night, what's going to stop them going back with a bolt cutter and removing the trailers

We moved our horses after the yard we were at got burgled three times in four months. It was well out of the way, but once the tea leaves knew it was there that was it, is was "game on". They stole an IW510 trailer, rugs and an old saddle on the three separate occasions. Thankfully nobody left their decent tack there anyway, as nobody lived on site.

We would never keep our horses anywhere where nobody lives on site anymore after that experience.

Like you, we were just glad that the horses weren't harmed in any way.

Bloody thieves, you work hard for what you've got and then scum like that think they can come and just take it for free. Really hope that by some miracle they get caught and you get your stuff back, but sadly it is unlikely.

What a total nightmare!

But, if you have household contents insurance it would be worth checking if you can get them to pay out. I had all mine stolen a number of years ago when I used to keep a horse at livery and even though the tack wasnt at my house they still paid up! The key thing is that you mustnt keep it there 100% of the time - ie you often take the take home to store it/clean it.

The most bizarre thing about when ours was all nicked was that in the end it turned out to be the YO (not saying thats what happened in your case obviously!). The police actually caught them as there was one very distinctive saddle. It was all very difficult because we still had our horses there until we could find somewhere else!

That's awful - little b*stards. What would annoy me most is the thought of them rifling through my stuff and being so close to my horses! We make sure we lock our tack room door (although if they really wanted to get in then nothing would stop them). Luckily our yard is just adjacent to our house and we have movement lights which come on so we do notice if they come on.

If I ever got burgled, that would be it - Id be fitting CCTV cameras to catch them! You could always put those fake ones up... might put them off?
