Does anyone have any suggestions on how to keep midges away from you? My stables are right next to the muck trailer and the midges in this weather are unbearable! Is there anything I can hang up or spray around that will get them to leave me alone?

We use Tesco own midgey (sp) spray, works a dream. Smells like White Musk

Make up my fly spray - in the stable section - good for nag and humans. Keeps my OH safe when poo picking and he is a midges fav grub normally.

I draw the line at feeding us Skratch - side effect is a lovely smell of cat pee and fox!

Avon skin so soft dry oil (the blue one) is available on ebay at about £5 for a couple of bottles. We live in a midge paradise and it does seem to help, although only up to a point. Short of spraying DDT around, nothing is available which will eradicate them completely. Another method which is popular here, and expensive, is the midge machine. They take about a year to really make a difference (the breeding season needs interupting), but after that are very effective. If you purchase one, make sure it is specifically aimed at midge eradication.
