I had yet another no show today from another farrier! I am so fed up with it all now. Farrier was booked for monday he called and said he couldnt make it as cutting haylage. So i said any day any time would suit me. So it was arranged for today at 3.30 - 4.00pm. I turned up at 3.15 horses all ready to go by 3.30. I had arranged for someone o look after my 3 year old and took my 9month old son along with me.

I waited until 5pm by this time my son was screaming his head off as he thought he was starving and he was bored. I couldnt get hold of the farrier so i just left it and came home. I havent contacted him tonight as im so peed off. Do i keep chasing him up? It really annoys me. Surely he should turn up. Maybe i should of waited longer however its not fair on my son. Should i of waited longer or is 1 - 1.5hours long enough to wait?

I once waited 5 hours for my farrier and when he turned up it was dark, and was miffed when I said he couldnt really see what he was doing to shoe. I started using a different one but I wasnt happy with the way he was shoeing my horse, i then called another one who stopped when the horse moved a cm took the shoe off and drove away, I then had one who lost his temper when she moved sideways, hit the horse with the nail hammer and got stomped on as a result. I went back to my original one when I heard he was looking for customers but I did explain to him the reason why he had no customers was turning up 5 hrs late to shoe, not answering any phone calls, not coming out for 4 weeks after you had asked him to then shouting at you for leaving it too long for shoes, I can go on and on and on! and she's good to shoe, but just moves occasionally like any living animal!

you mean your Aberdeenshire farrier actually does bookings? :-PP

Mine doesnt!!

After the 17 hander lost a shoe for the second time in 2 weeks despite not being in work, I managed to get the farrier a fortnight after first asking, to turn up and just take off the other hind shoe (cause he might as well have no shoes on the back, than one :-()!

If he manages well then Im thinking of barefoot for him like my pony in Spring. Even tho hes 17 and has always been shod so it may not be easy (whereas shes been barefoot from the start). His feet are good tho, so will have to see.....

But its frustrating to have this forced on me, as I was happy with him shod.

To go back to your post now my rant-ette is over, no I dont think thats on and its not reasonable to leave you waiting that long without letting you know. Half an hour is long enough where theres a firm booking and there hasnt been any contact at all.

Please do that would be amazing andraste.

Im not far off going down the barefoot trimmer lines. Both my mares are barefoot at the moment however i was thinking that one of my girls will need shoes next year but will have to wait and see
