AAD and how do you view the section?

I don't post as regularly as I like as I own, and have bred a litter of multi-generational Labradoodles, from health checked parents, grand-parents, going backwards to origin. To many on here, and it is my perception from the posts I have read, I am some money grabbing back yard breeder, puppy farmer or misinformed fool ( I can assure you I am none of these) There is even a sticky against buying cross breeds at the top of the page.

I too wonder at the value of some arguments, regarding cross-bred dogs. We can discuss how our lurcher may be bred, but not our Labradoodle. I will admit that there will be those breeders who breed without thought, or any degree of planning, but that happens with pedigree dogs too, and there will now be what are referred to as 'Designer' breeds. They're not really designed, and they're actually first crosses, most of them, created to appeal to those who want something a bit different, but without any other real purpose. I suppose that it's the 'Label' which most actually object to.

Alec.

I think a lot of breeders breed to improve an established breed and to eliminate faults eg the purine thing in dallies. unfortunately for GM, some (please note the some!) people seem to have jumped on the 'designer' bandwagon and are claiming outrageous things about doodles ie no shedding at all which you certainly can't say about a whole litter and charging silly money for them. I think this is why sometime people go crazy at crosses. And as Alec says, the purpose is perhaps not obvious: a lurcher is bred for specific tasks but some designer breeds are bred because they command high prices and are not specifically for a job. some people do simply want a 'different' dog. (Someone was asking about getting a Russian toy terrier puppy on a forum this week, wanting something different, and then saying it would be left 8-6 every day and surely it would be OK :( )

I just saw an advert for a cockapoo this week-£750 and having just seen my bil buy a pedigree KC reg springer pup all singing all dancing FTCH every which way on the pedigree for about half that, I do understand why people might whinge about the doodle crosses. There some people that give good breeders of any breed/cross a bad name-a guy in Norfolk-Clay Kennels, I think, was boarding dogs and using them as studs to create all sorts of bizarre crosses (unbeknownst to the owners!) and they look very odd. He was claiming all sorts of heritage then put up a pic of a rescue bitch he had used, some sort of bull breed, clearly a cross herself and claiming she was an Old Tyme something or other when she was far from pedigree and looked knackered, the poor old girl. :( These are the sorts of people who are wrecking it for breeders who do all the health checks and produce crosses carefully.

PS I just had to leave a springer group where it seems that lots of people breed back to back, no health testing, they feed bottom of the market food and are proud of this! It was driving me nuts. :(

Thankyou Alex and Cinnamontoast.

Cinnamontoast Agree, even to me the motivation and the types coming out of current crossbreeding makes uncomfortable reading.

Alex - Yes the tails are lethal, cups, glasses, eyes all can be in the danger-zone and the bounce, well that is more like Tigger than a dog. Just require the same consistent firm training and boundaries same as any dog and they are very capable of learning quickly as they just want to please. Not so different after all haha :-)
