Just wasted my entire evening waiting for mine who hasn;t shown. Again.
Got up early this morning to bring horsey in for farrier who decided he was coming 'later on'. Left horsey in all day. Rang farrier at 4pm after work as I had to go pick something up. 'I'll be there tonight, half 7". No show. I had to come home to go to bed.

This is the same farrier who cancelled my horses' shoeing 3 times over a week, resulting in him losing a shoe and getting a bruised sole. Cue vet's visit, much fussing, spending of money. I haven't ridden for 4 weeks now. i was expecting the farrier to refit shoes today so I could see if my horse is sound yet. So I might be able to ride the bloody thing, or if not get his foot xrayed etc.

Arrrggghhh what can I do???

Gosh yes I have to agree Get rid of him its irrasponsible Hmm sorry for the typo Get another farrier who respects his trade customers and health of horses he looks after !

To give you an idea (and we DONT do this for our farrier, but others do and he's happy), he gets them in from the field, washes their feet, does them, turns them back out again. Regularly deals with mates 2year old bolshy badly mannered colt. On both occasions we've had problems (one where horse pulled shoe, one when horse impaled sole on stone) he's been there the next day OR the impaled sole, I rang him when I turned out at 8.20, by 8.50 he was there, 9.10 the stone was out. AND he didn't charge.

Get another one!

agree get rid, i adore my farrier is just amazing always early never late rings me the night before to tell me what time hes coming, very lovley person have a good gossip with him, really good with two of my horses who are difficult, not rubbing it in;-)..

erm - no nice way of saying this but do you think he may not want to do your horse for some reason and is trying to make you go elsewhere? :(

had a farrier do this once because he didn't like doing youngsters as they didn't stand like statues, just wasn't man enough to say so.

happily I now have a truly amazing farrier :)

Get a new one, i know i havnt got time enough to be wasting time hanging around, mine needs to be some where near time or else i cant do it,
Its a new horse when he getts to know him better then he will prob just help himself in field but we have to change the foot shape atm so we need to be on a same page, so to speak

But get a new one

Umm i've been through this! When i moved yards last winter i had intended on using my old farrier i had from pony club days as i knew him personally and he def mainly did my area. Appt was booked for 9am as at that time i had 4 full sets! and had to be at work for 1.30 dead. Well he was reknown back in the day for being a little late (half hour) Decided to wait til 10am to get them all in etc. 10.15 came so i thought i'd bell him in case he got lost, shock straight to a/p! Waited waited until 12.30pm just out of interest to see if he actually would turn up. Ended up very peeved and shoved them all out, just on my way down the road from yard to work and he rings me 'running late,on our way,we're about 10 mins from you' to that he got 'i have NOT got a whole morning to wait around for you!' will be using someone else soz! He is a awesome farrier but these days with a child and my own dog walking company to run every morning i just havn't the time or patience for it anymore. I gave him a chance and he blew it. It would of been a fairly good one as 4 x full sets at £72 a pop!!! Who's laughing now! Have a very good farrier now and shock when i book 9am he is actually there dead on 9am.

I'm in North Yorks.
See the problem I have is that this farrier IS a good farrier and has helped fix up my horses feet which were in a real state when I got him. It's just that I work full time and don;t have time to hang around for him!

My horse is a bit of a fidget, so maybe he's politely trying to fob me off.

Trouble is if I find a new farrier and he is a pain too, then what do I do? They're a dying breed round here!

Thread title - Agreed agreed agreed!!
Our farrier has been messing us about with our girl who has rotation in both feet - the vet reckons some of this rotation could have been prevented, had the farrier not fobbed us off and done as the vet had asked...
He is now coming tomorrow (and he will have an audience to make sure she is shod properly) and after this is rectified we will find another farrier...to add insult to injury, he also took £20 from our stable which was meant to be for him taking her toes right back - which he didn't do as we couldnt get the x-rays for the time he was down at the yard. £20 for pulling her out of her stable and looking?
So we will be asking (politely of course) for the £20 to be taken off the bill for tomorrow!
Here's hoping we find different lovely farriers to are out to do the best for our horses!!!

It seem fairly common - was amazed at new yard when farrier just didn't turn up time after time. Was seen as the norm. Wouldn't even call/text would just turn phone off - would take two weeks of people trying to get hold of and then waiting with fingers crossed to see if he would show. Then he would say the next day and the waiting would start again. I just can't be doing with it. Why they think you have the time is beyond me. Even if they called or text and said I'm not coming at least you can go home or something and normally I book the morning off work or something so how dare they waste my holiday? New one seems ok has turned up except once so treating that as a hopeful one off!! It is sooo rude.
