So wasn't bothered going for a hack as eventing tomorrow and was feeling lazy, but then decided I better just to take the edge of him.
So nearly home, he 'pecks', limps for literally two steps (I was trying to slow down but at trot on him, not the easiest when out!) then normal again. Got him home, forgot about it, bathed + plaited then remembered and had a look. And there was a litle bit of blood, and a tiny hole. Pressed it, and a little bit of blood came out, then stopped.
So cleaned the sole with cold water. Thought great, no more blood. Walked and trotted up and down, seems sound, maybe slightly off but it can be hard to tell with him, he's happy so suggests he is sound. Then have another look, and more blood on the sole.
Just a bit worried that this may be a deep puncture? I put antiseptic spray on, a dry poultice and put him out as normal.
Now the crucial bit...we have an event tomorrow...would it damage him to take him if sound etc.?

This may or may not be helpful to you! When I got my ex-racer, his trainer called me the day before to say he had pulled one of his front shoes. He appeared to have punctured the sole of his foot but the trainer said it bled - which was a good sign (something to do with not being infected - don't shoot me down! his words not mine!). Anyway, when he arrived he was fine - no lameness & no problems with the foot. Did not poultice or anything. So in this case there was no problem.

may be a blood blister under the sole, we have just had a mare with one, and it's sore and takes around a week to disperse..
I'd never heard of one before but my vet says they are caused by a knock or sharp object just like in a human..
That could explain the bleeding? Or he has trodden on something sharp causing the hole.
I don't think would event him I'm afraid, if he gets sore at a crucial moment you could both end up on the floor...Perhaps trot him tomorrow and see?

Fingers crossed indeed! He is very sorry for himself, always is so you can tell before you trot if he is lame!
