I have two Quakers. One I hand reared myself, and when his sister sadly died I stupidly bought a supposedly hand reared companion from a local well known breeder/seller. I took the bird on because I really needed company for mine, and at that point they were few and far between. Turns out it hadn't been handled by the breeder for several weeks and had virtually reverted back to aviary bred flightiness. Anyway, to cut a long story short, I spent ages with the new bird and he will step up, come out of the cage, etc, although he is never very happy about it.
However - since I became pregnant he (it) has become completely vicious towards me, attacking me and drawing blood at every opportunity! He doesn't do it to anyone else and I have no suggestion as to what else has changed. Can parrots have funny reactions to pregnancy? It seems unlikely but I can't think of any other reason for the behaviour change. My original Quaker is still his normal self.
And - do I rehome him or persist and end up losing a finger?! Oddly enough my friend has an Eclectus, and since the pregnancy he has started nipping his owner when I'm around - but trying to cosy up to me??!
