On Saturday evening my horse came up lame, I assumed abcess and polticed his hoof. The next morning he was worse so I soaked and polticed and that evening when I checked he was heaps better and there was a small hole in his sole that the abcess came through. So I soaked and polticed again and have been since but its been two days and he is still a little sore. Is that normal? I throught they were normally back to 100% once an abcess pops?

It takes several days to get totally back to normal, even if it has fully drained there will still be an area that is open, sore and possibly bruised, I usually wet poultice and tub until it has stopped draining, then dry poultice for a couple more days, keeping a dry dressing on until the hole is no longer really obvious, flushing out with peroxide or iodine can help it dry up but only once it has drained otherwise you risk the hole sealing over and the abscess building up again.

April was a bit sore for a couple of days after. I think you're thinking of the initial relief once the abscess has burst. The "my horse has broken a leg" look to "my horse has an abscess" lameness is a relief to every owner.

As above with regards to advice above. If concerned I'd get your farrier to have a look for you.

Yeah ok, I might be worrying to early, he's really not very sore on it, just noticeable to me. If it continues I will defiantly get it looked at.

Normal for them to be a bit off for a few days after bursting. Abscesses can also go on a bit, even though it has come out, depending on whether it is a garden variety abscess or a hum dinger, drive you to drugs type.
